Tomorrow is September 11, 2001…the 9th anniversary of the attacks in the United States. We all know this of course. It was a horrible day and I’ll always remember exactly where I was, even though I was just 11 at the time. I’m sure a lot of you are planning on writing your own post about this day and I definitely encourage you too…even if it’s just something short and simple. It doesn’t matter. However, I will ask you to include one thing…a link and information about the book American Widow by Alissa Torres.
It’s a graphic novel (someone else did the art) but Alissa wrote the story about losing her husband on 9/11. I know there are a few books from wives that lost their husbands…but this one is in a different format and something I believe that more people would be interested in reading. Think about picking up a copy, asking about it at the library, or ordering it online this weekend. Remember 9/11 through books. Honor those who were lost by reading a personal story. Two of the things that really strike me about her particular story is A. she was pregnant with their son and B. her husband died on his second day of work for Cantor Fitzgerald.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Remembering 9/11 post. Speaking of history, my husband and I were just talking this evening about how strange it is that our children (1 & 2) have no idea what 9/11 means. Sort of like how our parents all remember where they were when JFK was shot, but we only learned about it in history class. Remembering all of those who were affected.

Ah your memory is better than mine! I would probably remember it if I was in 6th grade though. But I was only in 2nd (I might have remembered it if I lived in NYC).
I would probably cry while reading American Widow. One day I'm going to need to read about everything that happened on 9/11 in a nonfiction book. But I'm just not ready.

I wish stereotypes would just die. Some Americans today are doing to the Muslims the exact same thing Americans did to Japanese Americans in WWII. We are better than that!

I had read about this graphic novel and how Alissa had chosen to write it in this form, not sure if she made the right decision. From what I have heard, it works well. And now before I let the title slip away again, I'm writing it down… definitely a TBR title!
