Books I Didn’t Realize Were Movies
Before I Die by Jenny Downham is a book that my sister really liked and which I hope to read soon. It sounds like the perfect story for me. However, I only learned around December that Before I Die is a movie. I came across the movie at the library I work at and decided to purchase the DVD for my sister for Christmas.
It’s called Now is Good and stars Jeremy Irvine and Dakota Fanning. As I write this I haven’t watched my sister’s copy yet, but I hope I can read the book soon and then watch the film adaptation.
The other book that I didn’t realize had been made into a movie was Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You by Peter Cameron. The movie has the same name and stars Marcia Gay Harden and Lucy Liu.

I haven’t read this book yet either, but it’s one that I’ve been aware of for awhile and I do hope to get the chance. I’m curious about the film too. I don’t mind when things change between book and movie. They are separate entities for me.

Anyway, these were two books I’d known about and yet never realized they made into movies until the DVD was out. Are there any other books you weren’t aware became movies for awhile?

  1. I had no idea either of these were movies either. I am the same way you are, I have to read the book before I can watch the movie (unless of course I never intend to read the book and then it is all good). I need to check these ones out now.

  2. I knew about Now is Good, but not about Someday this Pain Will Be Useful so I should definitely check that one out! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  3. I've read a book by Jenny Downham that I loved: You Against Me, but I haven't picked this one up. If I remember correctly it's because it's sad? Maybe. Anyhow, even before I was on Goodreads or started blogging I've been a huge fan of Lisa Gardner but I didn't realize one of her earlier books: The Survivors Club was mad into a movie. Unfortunately it was a cheesy made-for-TV-movie. 🙁

  4. Before I Die is such a good book! I knew it was a movie also, but haven't watched it. I'm avoiding A Fault in Our Stars because I'm afraid they will be too similar…one of these days maybe!

  5. Wow, I didn't know about any of these either! So surprising, especially Before I Die. I'm definitely going to check out Now is Good, I like Dakota Fanning.

  6. Very interesting. I was trying to remember a book that I later was surprised to find it in movie form but my mind is blank. I'm sure I will wake up at midnight and remember one now that it is rolling around in my head. 🙂
