Things to Know to Ease Your Car Anxiety

Full disclosure: I’ve never a driven a car. I’ve had really bad anxiety for years now and that made me more scared than excited at the prospect of getting my license. I am slowly getting to the point where I need to get my temps and at least practice driving. I’m hoping I’ll find a method that will ease my car anxiety enough to let me get a license. I doubt I’ll ever be much of a driver, but it would make getting around a lot easier – especially in the future. Once that time comes, I’m going to need a car, and that’s why I thought I’d share Cars.com with my fellow readers. Most of you probably do already drive and you might be in the market for something new, advice on how to sell your current car, or even information about service and repair.

I might not drive myself, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important to know how to care for a car. After all, I’m in a lot of other people’s cars on a regular basis. Whether you’re about to start driving, know someone about to, or could just use some extra car knowledge, let me share the ways that Cars.com can help ease your car anxiety.

  1. Car DIY

You don’t need to go to the mechanic every time you have an issue with your car. Cars.com has a whole DIY section, showing you just how to replace a tire or jump a car.

This section even includes videos for things like “how to remove a sticker from your car” which a lot of younger drivers might be able to utilize!

Everything here is good knowledge to know about your car, so that you aren’t left panicking when you get a flat tire or a dead car. Even if you aren’t the one driving, knowing this information will be very helpful for the driver!

  1. Car Recalls

Nobody wants to get behind the wheel of a car that’s not safe, right? Be sure to check out the Safety & Recalls section on the website to see if there is some important information you should know about the vehicle you’re driving. Plus, if you’re looking for a new car – or your first car- you can always find out some of this information beforehand!

  1. Car Maintenance

Once you have a car, you need to keep everything in shape, right? The Maintenance 101 section has articles answering a variety of good questions such as “how often should you rotate your tires” or “when do you need to replace your brakes?” This gives you all the information you need so you aren’t paying money just to get your question answered and you know you’re not driving a car that should really have new parts.

I’m not saying I don’t still have anxiety about driving cars – or even just riding in them sometimes – but I know that a site like Cars.com would definitely help me feel a bit more prepared, and I think they have a lot of great information for people on various driving paths – new drivers, old drivers, and all the ones in between!

I didn’t know about this site, and it’s definitely worth checking out, particularly for the Maintenance 101. Thanks a bunch Lauren! Hugs…

It is a really helpful site! Yes keeping your car “well” almost like you would yourself is so helpful to everyone!

  3. First off, I saw you’ve been blogging for 10 years now. Ten years! In terms of blogging, it’s an eternity…most people I know have been at it for no more than 5 or 6 years, and I myself am only turning 5 in a few days. Also, I took a look at your archive, and you’ve been more than consistent…you write more posts in a year than I did since I started LOL. Of course, you mentioned having some guest bloggers, but still – impressive!

The title of this article stood out, so I decided to see what it was about. And…ha! it struck so close to home. I’ve never wanted to get a licence – I’m AFRAID of cars. Or, to be more precise, I don’t trust myself to drive one, because I am, indeed, anxious. I hate all the things that I can’t control – I mean, where I’m not the only one in charge (and a car doesn’t travel in a void). Also, I’m not sure I would have the necessary sang froid to drive a car. This being said, I’m sure having a community to turn to will ease some anxiety for those who are planning to get a licence no matter what, or simply need tips in order to take care of their car.

I will look into this website! I was trying to figure out how to change spark plugs earlier this week and could have used it then for sure 🙂

  5. I’ve used this site it the past, it’s pretty helpful. I know a lot of people have anxiety about driving, but I think they should still at last learn how and get a license just in case of an emergency. Hope you get through it w/o too much anxiety.
