Contest: Perfect From Now On

In honor of Bookroomreview’s Bloggy Book Carnival, I’m giving away one copy of the novel Perfect From Now On: How Indie Rock Saved My Life by John Sellers

Author John Sellers Website!

Summary: John Sellers was powerless to resist the call of indie rockβ€”once he finally heard it. In this hilarious and revealing memoir, Sellers meticulously charts his transformation from a teenage headbanger rebelling against his Dylan-obsessed father to a thirtysomething fixated on the obscure Ohio band Guided By Voices. Along the way, he commemorates the deaths of Ian Curtis and Kurt Cobain, makes a pilgrimage inspired by the Smiths, and riffs on Pavement and the other raucous bands that have ruled college radio since the 1980s. Packed with compulsively constructed lists, ridiculous formulas, and embarrassing confessions, this is a book for anybody who thinks that corporate rock still sucks.

How To Enter:

One Entry: Leave a comment with your email or blog link so I can get ahold of you if you win….and say WHY YOU WANT TO READ THIS!

Extra Entry: Listen to EITHER ONE of these two bands (you don’t have to listen to both) and let me know who you listened too and what you thought (whether you liked them or not):

The Remorse Code
Pluto Revolts

Obviously, you don’t all have Myspace and therefore might not be able to add them, but if you listen to the music, like what you hear, and HAVE a Myspace, definitely think about adding them…and feel free to let them know we sent you their way!

Deadline: Saturday, November 8 at Midnight EASTERN time.

  1. I would love to read it because my husband can really connect to it- being in a band himself. I think we both could really enjoy it.

  2. The Remorse Code is AWESOME!!!! I think they’re becoming my new favorite band!

Pulto Revolts has a really unique sound- which is good! They have their own sound, which is something every band should have.

All in all, both bands are really cool! The next time I sign into Myspace, i’ll be adding both to my friends list!

I listened to the remorse code and I’m sorry but I didn’t really like them I’m more into different kinds of music like Radiohead, Muse, Keane, and a lot of others including spanish music so I’m not saying they’re bad it’s just I personally don’t really like that music πŸ˜€ sorry

  6. One, I love any book (okay, unless it’s horrible) that has to do with bands/music…but I do love the Smiths…and Guided by Voices has that Buffy song that I’m totally blanking on but do love and it’s set in a great point for music so yay–and the plot sounds awesome, too.

And I will try to listen to the bands later when I’m on my computer and can listen to things and all (assuming it doesn’t hate *that* part of Myspace, too…
