I can’t believe it’s August already! I know we all say it every month, but it’s just crazy to me. I’m ready for the fall though, I have to admit. I love the season (it’s my favorite) and there are usually a lot of fun events going on. Though I do have quite a bit planned for August and I’m excited!

Snacking (on): Justin’s Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. Really this is a special treat, since I’m on a weight loss program – but it’s the first thing that came to mind!

Anticipating: All the concerts I’m going to this month. Tonight is Tegan and Sara and later in August I’ll be seeing Simple Plan and Green Day (two different shows – they aren’t touring together). I can’t wait!

Borrowing: Honestly, I can’t think of anything for this. I haven’t been to the library in forever either, so I can’t even say I’m borrowing books!

Admiring: Wonderful books that focus on tough, but important topics, like refugees. If you haven’t seen it already, please look at my review for Refugee by Alan Gratz. I’m not trying to promote my review – I really just think people need to read this book. It focuses on refugees from three time periods – a young man from Germany, a young girl from Cuba, and a young man from Syria.

Purchasing: Movie tickets! I’ve seen two movies in the past couple weeks. The first was The Big Sick which I really loved. It’s great that it’s based on a true story too, and I thought the actors were great. It’s sad in parts, yes, but it’s also quite funny! The movie also stars comedian Bo Burnham, which I didn’t know going in, so that was a nice surprise! The second movie I saw was Baby Driver which both my friend and I really enjoyed. It’s fast and action packed, but the acting is really good too. It has some great actors like Kevin Spacey and Jon Hamm, including title character Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Β Stars).

My 10 Year Blogiversary!!Β

For those that don’t already know, August is my 10 year blogiversary, which means I’ve been blogging on ShootingStarsMag for 10 years now. Crazy isn’t it? To celebrate, I’ll be hosting a few different giveaways throughout the month. Be sure to follow me on various platforms so you don’t miss platform specific giveaways. Right now I’m doing one on Twitter – check it out here Β – and you can enter to win anything Harry Potter related from The Book Depository that’s $12 and under. Open international – if TBD ships to you. Thanks for 10 years everyone! Here’s to 10 more!

WOW, 10 years is a long time, you should be really proud of how far you’ve come, Lauren πŸ™‚ Also, I really want to see Baby Driver soon but I’m not sure if I’ll manage to find time for that. Green Day concert sounds amazing! Hope that you’ll have a wonderful August πŸ™‚

  3. Happy ten year blogging anniversary! That is awesome! And those concerts sound like a blast! Enjoy them! I could go for a Justin’s Peanut Butter Cup right now, yum!

  4. Congratulations on 10 years! That’s an amazing accomplishment! Those peanut butter cups sounds really yummy. I’ve been to a couple movies lately, but of the kid variety…Despicable Me 3 (cute/funny) and The Emoji Movie (not my favorite.)

  5. Congrats on 10 years of blogging! Can you believe I’ve never had a Justin’s Peanut Butter Cup?! I remember going to concerts pre-kids! It’s been YEARS! Enjoy, sounds like you have a lot of fun ones planned!

  7. 10 years! Holy heck! That’s amazing.

I just recently watched The Big Sick and really enjoyed it. I felt like I could relate to his character so much having grown up in America but into an Indian family that really held tight to traditions and rituals.

Congratulations! 10 years is huge! I’m happy to have found you to share in your love of books.

  9. Hey Momma,
Happy bloggy anniversary. πŸ™‚ Ten years eh? I started one maybe 2004 or 2005 as a way to chronicle my new life/romance and a way to communicate my undying love for my now husband (don’t laugh, lol). I made that private, then created another later and then migrated it over to my own domain. So I technically have been blogging a long time, I only call it real blogging in the last 2-3 years.

If those PB cups are the ones I’ve seen and had from
Starbucks, they’re pretty good. I toyed with making some myself last year but then thought it was far too much trouble and a mess. I’d rather buy one than make one (and a mess Ha!).

    Have a great day girl!

P.S. You’re not the only one that thinks it’s crazy it’s August already!!

  10. Wow 10 years, that is awesome. Congratulations! Dark chocolate peanut butter cups sound pretty wonderful. I love books that make me think and that make me see things from a new perspective, so Refugee sounds like one I would like to read!

  11. Ten years!!! Wow! Congratulations! I agree with you on the peanut butter cups! I’ve splurged on them once or twice, and they ARE good! Borrowing books from the library! Sheesh! I was totally stuck on “borrowing,” and that’s the perfect answer. I just updated my hold list, and I fully expect all of them to arrive at the same time! Does that ever happen to you?!?

  13. Congrats on 10 years!! That’s amazing- good for you. πŸ™‚ And enjoy the concerts, I love live shows. they’re the best.

  14. Ten years? On the same site? That’s impressive! I’ve probably hit 10 years total but have moved around a bit.
Craving peanut butter cups now. That’s totally a breakfast food because of the peanut butter, right?

Yep, on the same site! It’s crazy to me too. haha And yes, peanut butter totally makes it a breakfast food. πŸ˜‰

  15. I’m kind of out of it musically. I really don’t know a lot of the more current acts. I’ve heard people mention Tegan and Sarah before but I don’t know who they are or what kind of music they do. I need to look them up.

Congrats on the 10 year anniversary! That’s huge!

Oh yes, check out Tegan and Sara. I love their album The Con especially, but they’re great. They’ve been around for years now.

  16. Well those PB cups are a worthy special treat – so good. And I watch movies suuuuuper rarely, but I really want to see The Big Sick – definitely sounds like my kind of movie.

  17. Congrats on 10 years of blogging! That’s so awesome! πŸ™‚ Oh wow, Simple Plan! I completely forgot all about them. Green Day would be so fun to see in concert!

  18. Congrats on 10 years! I’m almost there in a couple of years. So many people quit blogging after a short time and it’s so disappointing. I start to become friends with them or get interested in their life story and then they vanish! So glad to see people like you who are sticking around for the long run!

  19. Lauren, just wanted to shoot a quick message to say congrats on the 10 year bloggoversary! That’s a pretty crazy and great milestone. I haven’t been following you that long, but yours has been one of my favourite since I have started following your blog πŸ™‚ I thought of you recently because there were some folks on one of my museum programs from the northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area and they were the nicest!

    • Aw, thanks Aylee! Your blog is one of my favorites too! That’s too cool you had people on your tour from my area. I’m glad they were nice and represented us well. πŸ™‚

  20. I’m still in awe of your ten year mark! *standing ovation*

I know it is healthier for us, but I just can’t seem to get into dark chocolate. My son loves it though.

Somehow I have fallen out of going to the movies. I hate going by myself and it always seems like I am busy when friends and family are going. Maybe I should start going by myself. Ha ha.

I will be swinging by to read about Refuge. I hope you had a great August!
