monthly magazine finds

How is it already the first Friday of the month? Well…here we are, and I’m back with Ashley to share what glossies are making me do this month. I’m using the July 2018 issue of Parents, where they share different uses for baking soda! Ready to learn more?

Surprising Uses for Baking Soda

There are actually more uses listed in the magazine, but I don’t want to give them all away! The only one I knew about was mixing baking soda and water to create a paste you put over a bee sting. I’ve used this before when I was younger and gotten stung and it really does work!

I actually wanted to test this out for bug bites and see if it helped relieve itching, but when I actually needed relief, we didn’t have baking soda! I have it at the house now and while I don’t like bug bites, I know I’ll get more…and I’ll be ready!

I will definitely update you all if it works on bug bites! But for now, just know that if you or your kid gets stung by a bee? Grab some baking soda and mix with water! And grab the July 2018 issue of Parents magazine to learn more interesting ways to use baking soda!

  1. Now, I am very curious about different ways to use baking soda. I didn’t know about the bee sting. I just know about making toothpaste and cleaning your face, Thanks.

  2. Interesting!! I had no idea! Who knew baking soda could help with a bee sting. The only other non baking use for it that I know of is to add it to the carpet when you vacuum for a fresh scent 🙂

  3. Baking soda has alot of uses – I didn’t not know about this and will stock up!
I bought a glossy this week and read it on Thursday so I can do one of these posts 🙂
    Have a great weekend!

  4. Had forgotten about using baking soda for bee stings but long ago, as a child, we did use this trick. I think I have that issue of Parents in my bathroom. Not sure why I get Parents, but I do. Will check it out. Want to link up with you, if I can sit down a minute and write up my post.

  5. Fun fact: It works great for poison oak or ivy too, the baking soda paste takes out the poison like it does in a bite or sting!!

  6. I didn’t know about either of those ideas! Lately I’ve been using a homemade baking soda spray to try to kill blight on my tomato plants. Fingers crossed…Mama wants homegrown tomatoes!

  7. I love finding out all the neat things you can do with baking soda and other things like lemon juice. It’s amazing how much money you can save if you use those simple ingredients rather than buying expensive cleaning products.

I have never trued baking soda for bug bites, but I bet it works. I think I need to review my uses for baking soda little more after reading this 🙂

  9. I haven’t tried using em’ on bug bites but I’m definitely going to have to (if I can find any…)–I got a couple on my walk today! :[

  10. I think baking soda in the US is the same as bicarbonate of soda here in the UK in which case I use it to make my own toothpaste and mouthwash at a fraction of the cost of the commercial stuff, plus mixed half and half with grated plain soap, it makes a great laundry powder for handwashing clothes. Amazingly versatile!

  11. I’m so glad to see I’m not the only Baking Soda huge fan out there! I think the list of things I use it for is HUUUUGE! teeth whitening, laundry whitening, to make my own laundry detergent and all purpose cleaner, to deodorized everything around the house, to make my own room and car freshener, to treat heartburn, as skin care, hair clarifying treatment, to bake.. etc etc etc LOL!
