Discussion: Do You Comment Jump?

Posted April 26, 2017 by shooting in Uncategorized / 66 Comments

It’s about time that I start doing more discussion posts on the blog, so today I’m talking about Comment Jumping! Please use the below image to pin this post!
One of the things that I always do is visit a blog if they comment on mine. I know not everyone who comments has a blog, but the majority do, so I find this to be a good way to say “thanks” and to hopefully make some new bloggy friends. Therefore, you comment on one of my posts, and I visit your blog and read/comment on one of your posts. This tends to turn into a back and forth type of thing, and I love it. I get to know new bloggers, and I know that if they don’t comment for a bit it’s because they are busy. This doesn’t stop me from reading and commenting on their blog. Anyway – back  to the topic at hand!

While visiting these blogs – and other blogs that I happen to come across – I often check out who else is commenting on their post. Sometimes I read what people are saying, but other times I just click their name and check out their blog (if they have one). This can be random, or maybe I liked their blog name or I saw their comment and thought it was nice. At any rate, I am now on their blog and checking out their posts. Sometimes I don’t find much that interests me, but a lot of times I’ll discover a really cool blog and I’ll try and leave at least one comment for them.

This act of finding a blog via someone else’s blog comments (or even through their blog roll) is what I call Comment Jumping. It’s a great way to discover new blogs/bloggers! This is just one of the reasons I have a blog roll on the side of my blog. I want people to discover these blogs too! Sometimes I’ll be commenting on a blog I regularly follow and I’ll see someone who comments on my blog and I’ll wonder “I don’t remember seeing them here before…did they discover this blog from mine?” If you did, then I’m here to tell you that you’re comment jumping, and it’s one type of jumping I can totally get behind!

So tell me – do you comment jump? If you miraculously remember, which blogs have you discovered from my blog roll/comment section? I’m sure we’d both love to know! It’s just another good reason to get out there and comment on people’s posts! It helps them – plus it’s nice – AND it can help you!

  1. I comment jump. Not as much as I did a few years ago… but tonight I’ve been doing it. Just depends on if I’m in the mood to blog. I tend to only blog 3-4 times a month now but I still get enjoyment out of it every now and then. Comment jumping is a great way to discover new blogs.

  2. I try my best to visit any bloggers that have commented too because as you said, you might make some new friends. I rarely comment jump since I don’t have that much time but will do it, for example, if I notice that the person leaves comments frequently on a friend’s blog because then we probably have things in common. I think it’s actually how I discovered this blog ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Ah I was wondering what you meant by that. I’ve been doing so a bit lately. I cleaned out my blog feed of dead links and ones I’m just no longer interested in and then found I needed some new blog blood so I’ve been checking out others I see out and about.

And I’ll be comment bombing you the next little bit. Catching up after a long past week. lol

  4. Yes! Guilty! This is so much fun though bc like you said, you can introduce yourself to SO many new blogs and bloggers! So grab the coffee and get going! haha Happy Wednesday! xoxo

  5. I do this, because I have found it is a great way to make new blog friends! And, if someone that comments on my blog doesn’t have a blog of their own, I will at least reply back to her comment!

  6. I do sometimes comment jump… I just never had a name for it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t do it all the time, basically it’s when I tend to notice the same name appearing a lot in the comments. I start to know the name and then click and find out more about them/their blog. I agree that it’s a great way to discover new blogs and bloggers!

  7. At first when I read the title of your post about Comment Jumping, I thought, uh oh, another blogging faux pas I am guilty of! Yes, I thought it was a bad thing. I love the way you describe this phenomenon! I don’t do a lot of Comment Jumping, but here and there, I will. And, like you mentioned, it’s a great way to get to know other people! Sometimes I get frustrated though because I cannot get through to a commenter because he/she has left info that is not adequate. Comment Jumping! I’m there! Smiles, Linda at Paper Seedlings

  8. I used to comment jump all the time when I first starting blogging because I wanted to stretch out and make new connections. In fact, that is how I found your blog because you were always commenting on Sam’s blog (I miss Sam). Anyway, I don’t do it so much these days because I have a hard enough time keeping up with the comments I receive. Great topic, Lauren.

  9. I try to visit the blogs of all people who comment on my blog, but I don’t always find things to comment to. However, I do get to discover new blogs, and one blog taking me to another and then to another is a wonderful feeling because that way you’re branching out for the usual blogging crowd.

  10. I do it occasionally when I have the time to comment back on other people’s blogs. Since I’m in college now, I rarely have time, but when someone DOES comment on my blog (and does it a few times), I definitely make it a point to try and visit them whenever I can. I always feel guilty when I don’t get the chance of commenting back and end up forgetting them. ๐Ÿ™

  11. Like you, I love discovering new blogs by commenting on blogs. One of the most interesting experiences in blogging for me is to making friends. I come from a family that do not like reading. I’m the only one in my family. It can be lonely not having someone to talk about books, or have the same interest.

Yes, I do comment jumping all the time. I love visiting new blogs. I get a lot of new blogs to visit from your blog but I don’t remember the blogs’ names. Thank you for coming to my blog too! You make my day whenever you com.

    I love your blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I definitely do the Comment Jumping!! I love it when I come across someone commenting on someone else’s blog that catches my eye. Usually it is some kind of cool blog name that gets me– but sometimes it’s a comment. Especially if someone is talking about books I also love in their comment since I don’t know a lot of people who have the same reading tastes as me.

  13. Riding the wave of it being a new year and all, I started just randomly commenting on any blogs that I wasn’t following. I wish I can say that they’ve returned the favour, sadly, they didn’t. But your idea sounds like fun. I might just give it a go.

  14. I do the same thing! And yes I comment hop all the time lol. I like doing it- and sometimes I’ll see a comment by a blogger I haven’t visited in a while, and I’m like oh yeah I need to get over there. So commenting on one or two blogs might turn into ten or twenty!

    Great discussion, love this topic!

  15. Great post! O also comment jump too. And as you do, I sometimes read what others comment, and sometimes based on their name/blog name I visit them ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. I definitely do! The comments sections of blogs are where I find new blogs to follow as well. I think as bloggers/writers, we are all part of larger conversations going on about the topics we choose to write about, and it’s great to continue those conversations in the comments sections and possibly find another blogger with whom we can connect.

  17. Only did it a few times but it makes sense to do it because it gives you an opportunity to find new blogs. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog.

  18. Sienna

I don’t tend to comment jump- but I do comment on social media. Basically same thing but on Instagram or Facebook

  19. I’m really new to the blogging world so I am just starting to gain an idea of what this community holds. I always love finding new blogs and having that social interaction so I try and comment back and visit sites as often as I can. I run my travel blog and am on the road full time in and RV with my husband so some days responses are quicker than others. Our blog is a great resource for us meeting new people and gaining support for our travels!

  20. i’m totally a comment jumper LOL
i figure if people comment on a certain post, we have the same interests, and i love finding new people to get to know and new things to read. of course, I have those blogs that i love reading and that i’m super loyal to but finding new blogs is always exciting!

  21. My internet kind of went crazy on me so if I post twice I apologize. I used to comment jump more but haven’t in a long time – I really should try it again, thanks for the idea! And also, the new site looks great!

  22. I absolutely comment jump. Of course I only get to do this 2-4 times a month, but I have found some great blogs that way! Do you have a favorite that you found from comment jumping?

  23. I’ve never thought of doing this! I spend so much time writing that I don’t leave much time for reading, but I love reading blogs so I should really make more time for it. I’ve been trying to interact with other bloggers more. ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. For me it completely depends on how much time I have. While I do love discovering new blogs, right now with 2 young kids and working full time I don’t have as much time as I’d like for blog reading. I always respond to my own comments, and I do try to visit commentors’ blogs–but it doesn’t always happen.

  25. Jessica Steioff

Comment jumping!! Sounds so much nicer than stalking or lurking! I never really had anyone comment on my old blog, but I do it on Pinterest all the time! LOL

  26. I hadn’t heard of comment jumping. I love this idea! I will definitely have to start being more mindful of this. I try to explore and get to know my readers but I am not as diligent as I should be about it. This is a great idea!

  27. Many times I check out people blogs that I read their comments on someone’s Post. Especially, people that took out time to write more than 10 words on someone else’s blog.

  28. I’ve never heard of the term before, but I do comment jump! ๐Ÿ™‚ If a blogger has written a post and I have a lot to say about it I’ll scroll through and see if anyone in the comments has left something similar or interesting and I’ll go check out their blog too. I don’t always have time to do this but it’s a nice way to find new blogs when I do! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you have had a good week and have a lovely weekend ahead of you ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. I do try to comment back on a bloggers post if they comment on mine and I try to seek out a couple of new blogs a week to check out, when I have the time!

  30. sometimes i do. and sometimes i’ll comment jump to the blogs of those who’ve left comments on friend’s blogs and then jump from that blog to those who’ve left comments on it — but that’s rare.

  31. I am a new blogger so I am new to all this but I think I want to do some comment jumping! I absolutely love blogging and I am finding that I really like reading blogs too! Thanks for the great post and introducing me to another aspect of blogging!

  32. Hehe, Yes! I comment jump! I mean, I just came here from Leta’s blog! I have been busy recently, so have recently only had time to visit the people who comment on my blog, but this week, I found myself with a bit of time, and have been blog jumping like crazy. Sometimes, when I’m really close to a blogger, I will literally just scroll down her comments and click on every blog that commented on her. Its an excellent way to meet new friends, and delve deeper into the community. xx

  33. Honestly, I am finding it hard to keep on track now days… So I comment jump. I used to take a little more time. Hopefully when I’ve got a routine, things will be a little smoother!

  34. ~Whether it is through comment jumping or otherwise anyway of making new blogger buddies has to be good as far as I’m concerned.

It’s lovely to be back with you, thank you so much for your kind comments.

  35. Jen

See how many comments you have, that is because you are an excellent commenter! Well done. I think comment jumping is a great thing to do!

  36. I love discovering new blogs from other bloggers! Life has been busy lately, so I haven’t been comment jumping a lot, but it is a fun way to discover other bloggers ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. I do once in awhile but not too often. I usually don’t have time but if a comment really catches my eye I will check it out. Thank you for sharing at Ravenwould.

  38. That is so lovely of you. I always reply back to comments but do not get time to always visit the person’s blog who commented. Need to do that more.

  39. I am a comment hopper! Especially if I see someone review a book I love, and there are comments similar to how I feel about a book. That means already we have something in common.

    Great post!

  40. love this post, Lauren (and it seems like a LOT of other people in the comments do as well) ๐Ÿ˜€ This was something that I definitely used to do when I first started blogging – it really was a great way to make connections with other like-minded bloggers! Since then, I have completely fallen out of the practice, basically once I felt content with the number of blogs I was in contact with. But now, a lot of my favourites have quit blogging, sadly… Maybe I should think about trying this again, stirring up the pot and finding some new voices!

  41. This design is wicked! You certainly know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

  42. I do! It’s what I do if I’m done with my commentors’ blogs. I check out people who comment twice or thrice on posts on some blogs. I love doing it especially if I find some really good stuff on their blogs.
