Yes, I’m posting this a tiny bit early, but I’m here to share some news and updates for Five Things Friday! I’ll be linking up with A Little Bit of Everything and Penny’s Passion.

ONE:

Over on Instagram, a bunch of Bookstagrammers, authors, booksellers, etc. banded together to support Asian American and Pacific Islanders (#AAPI) in the wake of the shootings in Atlanta, as well as escalated violence and racism since Covid. This isn’t new, but people seem to becoming more bold in their racism, stereotypes, and prejudice. There’s no place for hate, and I wanted to do my part so I started a Book Stack Challenge that goes until April 24. Share a stack of red books and tag me (and feel free to use #standupforaapiredbookstack) and I will donate a $1 for each stack, up to at least $50 but I’ll try and match them all, to National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum. I’d love to have you join or help spread the word!

TWO:

Called Upon by Bethany Lee was released this Tuesday. I’m a little over halfway through and loving it, so I definitely recommend. I’ll be sharing an actual review once I finish, but I wanted to make sure I shared this AWESOME deal. Visit Bethany’s website and use the code LAUREN60 to get 60% off a paperback copy. Seriously, that’s over half off a physical copy. So so worth it, so grab your copy now!!

THREE:

Headed back to Instagram, I’m taking part in a Giveaway Hop of sorts. There are ten of us taking part and we all have a buddy. Basically, each giveaway is following two bookstagram accounts for the chance to win TWO books of your choice. You have five chances to win! You can enter my book giveaway and then visit the other accounts linked, or follow the hashtag included, to find the others! It’s open to International entries if The Book Depository ships to you and ends on March 31.

FOUR:

I shared my second edition of Behind the Bookstagram earlier this week. It’s full of great tips for taking photos in the snow. I have another post coming up soon with some tips from myself and another Bookstagram account. If you want to share any of your own Bookstagram photos and the stories, tips, or tricks behind them, please get in touch. I’d love to keep the series going. Honestly, the story doesn’t have to be long or intricate; you can share funny anecdotes or photo bloopers/outtakes! Shoot me an email if you’re interested: laurenbecker1215 AT gmail DOT com

FIVE:

Time for some reader feedback!! I’m planning some fun – or I think they are fun – giveaways. I’ve been doing a lot on Instagram lately, but I don’t want to leave all my blog readers out. So tell me: do you prefer blog giveaways, where you can pick and choose entry methods, or do you like social media only giveaways (Twitter or Instagram)? Let me know all your thoughts! If you don’t have a preference, let me know that too. I’m going to try and do a mix, but it’s always good to see what others like best since these giveaways are obviously for YOU. I will say that I have a bunch of giveaways planned for next month that will be on the blog because it’s ALICE IN APRIL (aka Alice in Wonderland).

  1. This is so great! I love how you are all standing up for the AAPI cause, it is amazing! Awee, I am Canadian and so can’t use that website to buy the book but very excited to read your review. 🙂

I love your “five things friday” idea, very interesting. Great giveaways, challenges and interesting reads!

  2. I’m trying to do more with Instagram and I love to do the book stacks for causes. I’ll try to remember to do one this weekend and link to the hashtag you’ve got! Great idea! Love the cover of Called Upon, I’ll have to check that one out. As to giveaways. I’m not great with sharing posts on Instagram, so I have trouble doing much with those giveaways if they are more than commenting and tagging a friend and following an account. I prefer blog giveaways. But that could be just because I’m too old to keep learning new tricks. lol

Such a supportive and wonderful idea! My stacks of book are in the process of being revamped, and would be a nightmare to see(lol). You’re always so kind and giving to provide so many giveaways throughout the year, and even though I don’t always jump in, I feel that anything you offer is very much appreciated! Hugs, RO
