Lauren: The Dragon of the Month Club features a variety of different types of dragons. Which was your favorite to write about?
Iain: Ohhhh! Such a difficult question! But I think that since your question is which one was my favorite to WRITE about I would have to say that it was the Water Dragon. Or dragons, I should say, since there were many of those. This was the first type of dragon that Ayana and Tyler tried to conjure and they discovered that by using bottled water from different parts of the world that the resulting dragons would be quite different in appearance. Using Evian water, for example, resulted in a much longer and worm-looking dragon than using plain old Canadian tap water. And I think that writing about their experiments with different types of water was a lot of fun.
Lauren: Do you remember the initial idea that led to this book?
Iain: Absolutely yes I remember the initial idea that led to the book. It was the title. I was watching Modern Family on TV and Jay mentioned how he was enrolled in the Sausage of the Month Club, which got me thinking about Jelly Bean of the Month Clubs and how I’d always wanted to join one of those, and then…. out of the magical ether…. on a Saturday…. came the title. The Dragon of the Month Club. But what exactly did that mean, I wondered. By Sunday I had the basic story figured out. And all that was left was for the Wishing Tree to appear in my life and take the story into some unexpected directions.
Lauren: Will this be a series, and if so, how many books will there be?
Iain: My current plan is for a series of five to seven books. There are a lot of adventures out there for Ayana and Tyler – and a lot of worlds for them to visit. In fact, just this week I’ve been drawn to ideas for the second book. Let’s just say…. Clockwork Dragons…. and leave it at that.
Lauren: The main characters in this novel travel to various book-inspired worlds. Did you have a favorite that you wrote about, and was it inspired by a real story/book?
Iain: Absolutely by far my favorite world in the book was the world of London in the time of Sherlock Holmes. I am a huge fan of Sherlock and it was fascinating for me to take Ayana and Tyler through the streets of that mysterious city and to experience some of the famous stories from a completely different perspective.
A variety of dragons sounds interesting. I love a London setting.
OMG this looks absolutely adorable!
xx
Dragons in Sherlock Holmes' London? Sounds fun! I'm trying to make a reader out of my youngest niece and this sounds like something that could get her attention away from her iPad. 😉
This looks so cute!
Fun that the title was inspired while watching TV. Funny how that works sometimes. Great interview!
Oh dragons visiting other book world's, that sounds fun. I will have to consider this for my daughter.
What a fun interview! I think the dragon of the month club sounds so awesome. I always like to read about where someone got their idea from and I love that it can be something so simple such as line from a tv show. That really is cool. The water dragon really does sound interesting. I will check this out!

What a fun interview! I like this book! Thanks for the heads up 🙂
I have this book for review, I really should make time to read and review it soon as it sounds like a lot of fun! I like the sound of the experimenting with waters to summon different type of water dragons. And that's exciting there will be five to seven books in the series! Great interview 🙂
Oh that sounds so fun! Love that the different water dragons are from different types of water. How clever!
