Another month is ending, and I’m back with Dara from Not In Jersey to share what I’ve been up to (locally) this month. Welcome to Local Tourist. We’d love for you to join us in the link-up below!
August was a really busy month for me in terms of exploring where I live. Before I get there though, I have to go back to the end of July. I had two events that I finally reviewed in August so I want to share those first.

Alright, it’s time to talk about August 2018…
- On Friday, August 3, I attended a movie in the park with my mom, brother, and nephew. We’d never been to this park before so it was really fun. Plus, they had some pre-activities like a bounce house, bounce slide, and even large bubbles! The movie we saw was Sherlock Gnomes, which I’d never seen before but it’s really cute, especially as an adult who likes Sherlock Holmes.
- On Thursday, August 9, I went back to the same park as above to see a performance of Julius Caesar as part of Shakespeare in the Park. The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company offers free performances around the Cincinnati/NKY area throughout the summer. Another friend and I met up with a friend (and her fiance) who has been in Canada and/or Sweden the last few years (grad school, got engaged) so it was amazing seeing them. As for the actual show, it was really well done and it’s kind of awesome what they can do without a full set!
- On Friday, August 24, I went to the drive-in near me and saw Christopher Robin. I did a whole post about the drive-in, which I love, as well as a review of the movie, so you can check that out here.

<3 I loved following your August activities!! What fun! Happy *almost* September!
I love that you get to do all these fun activities and that you share them with us as well!
Plays in the park are fun!
What a fun month! I’ve always wanted to go to a Shakespeare in the Park performance. My brother and sister-in-law go regularly to one in Boise that they just love, but I’ve never heard of one here in Denver.
Aww Shakespeare in the park, so cool! Julius Caesar is one of my favourites! I hope your September will be just as great too!
You are always so busy doing fun things 🙂 Sherlock Gnomes sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you have a lot of fun staying busy in September!
I just finally saw Christopher Robin yesterday. Such a cute movie.
I’ve seen a lot of Shakespeare plays in my time, but I have always wanted to see one done ‘in the Park’. I’m glad to hear you had such a great experience with Julius Caesar in the park.
Julius Caesar is such a good play!
Sounds like a fun month!!
I’ve always wanted to go to a Shakespeare in the Park event. So glad to hear it was a great show!
What a fun August! You just gave me some inspiration to find a movie in the park. That sounds like a good time to just hang out and eat a bunch of snacks. 🙂
So glad you got to see your friend that you haven’t seen in a long time and meet her fiance. Those types of moments are so special!
Your August sounds fun! You inspired me to find a play in the park quick, before it gets cold again!
We never have anything like this in our area. Would love to see shakespeare in the part.
I don’t really go to a lot of local events, but we sometimes like to take a walk in our neighborhood, there are some nice places close by. Sounds like you had some fun events in August. That park sounds like a fun place. Nice they showed a movie and a performance.
