Glossies Made Me Do It: Woman’s Day May 2019

In the May 2019 issue of Woman’s Day, there is a fun article all about ways you can celebrate Memorial Day (Monday, May 27 this year) and I decided to utilize one of their ideas to give back to those who served for our country. My brother was in the Army, so anything related to the military is extra important to me.

Memorial Day Flowers

Out of the six ideas in the magazine, I decided to go with Donate Flowers. You visit the website Memorial Day Flowers and click the Donate button. There are options for various amounts, starting at $5, or you can put in your own amount. You can put in the reason you’re donating, and have that show up on the website with or without your name if you like as well.

If you donate $5, then five flowers will be placed on soldier’s graves. There’s a whole list of the graveyards on the website if you’re curious where they go. I chose the $5 option, and then I agreed to pay the 3% transaction fee (it was 15 cents) so that 100% of my money went toward providing the flowers. Definitely worth it!

No, it’s not a ton of money, but it’s something, and five graves will now have flowers in honor of Memorial Day. I definitely recommend checking out the website, or taking a look at the other ways to celebrate Memorial Day in Woman’s Day magazine.

What do you think? Will you be donating? How do you celebrate Memorial Day?

  1. What a beautiful gesture and something people can do to show respect and gratitude. I don’t think we have the mass war graves that the US have. I’ve seen the large marble plaques that list names of fallen soldiers and they often have a little allocated slot next to their names for people to place a poppy in remembrance. I wonder if they have something similar for return soldiers still living. You’re such a beautiful soul Lauren.

  2. I think this is such a fabulous idea. I have never heard of it before and oh man…this just really touched my heart. You are doing a wonderful thing Lauren for these soldiers. xoxo

  3. That is such a wonderful thing to do, especially for those soldiers who may not have anyone else to pay tribute to them. I love that you are doing this for them Lauren! How wonderful!

  4. What a lovely idea and a great way to give back to people who have given everything to protect our country! I would really like to get down to Arlington National Cemetary (so close to me) and help them put flags up on all the graves for Memorial Day.

Wow, this is such an awesome thing to do. I love programs like this, especially when they make it an option to have 100% of your donations go to the cause. Thanks for sharing this!
