Stitches by David Small (graphic memoir)

Summary-
One day David Small awoke from a supposedly harmless operation to discover that he had been transformed into a virtual mute. A vocal cord removed, his throat slashed and stitched together like a bloody boot, the fourteen-year-old boy had not been told that he had cancer and was expected to die.
Review-
As this is a graphic novel, Stitches is a fairly fast read. However, the drawings and overall story leave a lot to look at and think about. This is definitely an emotional read, but the way it’s told allows the readers to savor an intense read in smaller “child-like” doses.
David Small’s father used to use radiation on him when he was a young child to cure his illnesses, but instead, he made it a lot worse. David was diagnosed with throat cancer, but instead of having a family that would be honest with him and help him through this, they decided to have him put under for surgery but refused to give the truth. Cancer was never spoken. David ended up finding out in a rather horribly inpersonal way.
Stitches has great artwork, an interesting and horrible story that you don’t want to believe is true, and is definitely a book that I would recommend to anyone.
I just got this book this past weekend and plan to read it next. So glad to see it's good!
Oh wow could you imagine something like that happening to you?! Not fun. By the way, am I the only one that though "zombies" when I saw the cover? I think it's because of that creepy granny character.
