3 Ways to Help Your Direct-Sales Friends (without buying anything)!

I’m a direct-sales consultant myself – I sell for Usborne Books and you can find my shop here – but I know that not all of my friends are going to be interested in my books or have the money to really put toward buying anything. However, there are still ways that I would really appreciate their help, and I thought I’d share three of them today!

1. Host a Party

Whether the party is at your home or online, by hosting, you are giving your friend an outlet to talk about her business and the products. Usually hosts can earn rewards based on how many sales their party earns. This means you get the chance to earn the products – free of charge! Parties are a big way for direct-sales consultants to expand their business and make money, because they are showing off the products to more than one person.

The hope is that most of them will buy something – which gives the consultant money – but they also hope one of the guests will host their own party in order to earn free rewards! This helps expand the business and put the products in front of another, new audience. By hosting a party, you show your friend you want to help them succeed, even if you can’t currently buy anything.

2. Spread the Word

This could go along with hosting a party – you’d be spreading the word by inviting guests. However, maybe a party just isn’t for you! You can still help out by spreading the word. Maybe mention to some friends or family members that you know someone selling XYZ and would they be interested in either learning more or buying the product?

Perhaps your direct-sales friend has a deal going on – make sure you let people know, either in person or even via your Facebook! Sharing online is quick and easy, but it can have big impact. Just make sure you include a link to your friend’s website or tag them personally in the post so interested readers can easily get in touch!

3. Support Them

Support doesn’t always have to be in monetary form, even with direct-sales friends. Sometimes they just need someone to bounce ideas off of, or even vent here and there! Perhaps you can give ideas on how they can expand their business or reach more potential clients. You don’t have to buy the product if you don’t want to, or don’t have the money to.

This is still your friend and letting them know that you believe in them and want them to succeed will go a long way. After all, whether a full time job or a side hustle, direct-sales is still a business venture. Consultants need friends and/or family to be there for them, rooting them on and picking them up when things go wrong.

How else can you help your direct-sales friends without actually buying their product?

  1. I love this, Lauren!! Great ideas. I fully support all my MLM and direct sales friends whenever I can. Totally appreciate when it is reciprocated. I love Usborne books. Me would be happy to buy from you next time I’m ready to buy. And I’m here with my pink drink for those ready for a tool that will bring better health 😉

  2. These are great tips to help! I try to spread the word for my friends who do MLM and direct sales and I host a party when it’s something that interests me. I know how hard it is and I want to do what I can to help anytime!

  3. I’ve never sold anything, but I’ve always been afraid to host parties for friends! I have a friend that is doing a wine party for another friend and she has to pay $30 for the wine everyone will sample, yet gets a free bottle out of it. I think it is sweet of her to do that… and who doesn’t love wine? ha!! I usually buy something tho, if it’s something I’ll use or can gift.

  4. These are great ideas! I feel bad for my friends that are in sales because I know that people get super irritated with them with their millions of posts on facebook. My neighbour is now selling things I get swarmed with invites and I’d love to support everyone but I’m not a millionaire 🙂

  5. This is great! I have a number of friends who sell products, and I always want to help them out, but am not always able to buy things at the time. I love these other ways to support them.

  6. This is a nice way to help, I usually avoid these types of events because I hate feeling pressured to buy things I don’t necessarily want or need.

  7. Thank you! I have a lot of friends in direct sales and I want to support them, but we are on budget. So this post is perfect for me!

  8. I have such a hard time with most MLMs because of some of the sellers I have met while coordinating events that were just too pushy or they were making medical claims that just weren’t true. If I ever run across someone that is looking for something that a friend of mine sells though, I definitely pass their information on!

  9. Sadly I think Usborne only deliver to US and territory residents, but I have your bookmark saved for quick reference for US friends. I’ve noticed a lot of comments using the term MLM and I have no idea what that is. Have you thought about an online party on Facebook for friends and potential buyers? Could be a way to increase sales without people needing to leave their homes too.

    • Hi Kelly!

Usborne is in different countries, I believe, but yeah, you have to buy from someone in YOUR company. As for MLM – I think it means Multi-Level Marketing.

As for FB parties, yes! That’s how I’ve been doing my parties so far. You can do in-person ones but I’m not really ready for that at the moment. Plus, people tend to like just being able to order online and not have to go anywhere. Thanks for bookmarking me though; I appreciate!! 🙂
