Unusual Halloween Songs for Adults

There are songs that are pretty typical to listen to on or around Halloween; “This Is Halloween”, “Time Warp”, and more. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to give you some Halloween songs that might not be on regular rotation – but should be – but probably only for the older listeners!

“Magic Man” – Heart
“Hotel California” – Eagles
“Black Magic Woman” – Fleetwood Mac
“Disturbia” – Rihanna
“Heads Will Roll” – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
“Bad Things” – Jace Everett
“Enter Sandman” – Metallica
“People Are Strange” – The Doors

What are some Halloween songs you’d recommend? Don’t worry, they can be your typical Halloween fare!

  1. How fun. especially since I already like some of these. 😉
It’s strange and maybe a bit juvenile but I still love Monster Mash! We just went to a party on Saturday and they totally played it and I loved it.

  2. This is my favorite time of year and Saturday I went to a painting class that included watching Hocus Pocus. The first song that pops into my head “I put on spell on you”. Another good one is “This is Halloween”

Great post, thanks for the fabulous post.

  3. Ooh, I love Bad Things! Makes me want to go watch True Blood again! Your other choices are good too. There are some by Florence and the Machine, Howl, that I really like. One that may not seem Halloween, other than I loved the dance they did on one of the first couple seasons of So You Think You Can Dance, is Rama Lama Bang Bang by Roisin Murphy. Fun post!

  4. What a fun list, Lauren! The only song that ever comes to mind for Halloween is Monster Mash, but I can see People Are Strange and Black Magic Woman as great songs for the holiday!

  5. Ooh this is a fun list! I love Magic Man and I never thought of Heads Will Roll as a Halloween song but it makes sense! I’d definitely add these to a Halloween playlist! So fun!

  6. Halloween will always be The Monster Mash for me, because it was played, ad nauseam, at every halloween party I attended. Though, a more grown up tune that comes to mind is some of those songs from the original Lost Boys movie.

Oooh. This is a good list. I have never thought about some of these being Halloween songs, but they work. And now I feel like taking a look at my playlists and seeing what’s in there too! Bad things makes me miss True Blood for sure.

I can’t say I pay much attention to Halloween songs the way I used to, but there are quite a few songs from your list that bring back memories. Hugs…RO

So a few years ago we put on Thriller for the younger kiddos and they had nightmares from the video! Crazy 🙂

I like your song selections, a couple are ones I am goign to need to go search out.

  10. I feel like a few Fleetwood Mac songs should be considered “Halloween” songs. I was recently in the mood for her songs. I really love Rhiannon for this time of year.
I loved that you picked that Rhianna song because it’s so upbeat it seems out of place 😀
I love your choices of Black Magic Woman, Hotel California, Bad Things, Enter Sandman and People Are Strange. I’m 24 and grew up with some of these songs.
