1. Suppose you are a reincarnation of a past self. Who would you have been? When would you have lived?
I could give you a fun, crazy answer, but I think I’ll go with the truth. When it comes to reincarnation, I’m not necessarily a “believer.” However, I have always wondered if I might have lived in Europe during World War II. And if I did, you can bet your butt that I didn’t spend it twiddling my thumbs and hoping for the best. I would have been fighting behind the scenes somewhere. Perhaps in the catacombs under Paris as a member of the French Resistance. (This would explain my strange fascination with underground cities. And my passionate love of wine and cheese. It would not explain why—despite years of classes—I can’t speak French to save myself. Seriously. French people laugh at the way I garble their language.) I haven’t had any visions of this WWII existence, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out I’d been around back then.
2. Will The Eternal Ones be part of a series?
How many books does it take to be a series? (I honestly don’t know.) There will be a sequel! I just finished writing it. (But I don’t have a final title yet. For me, the title is always the most difficult decision.) Book Two picks up the story one year after the events in The Eternal Ones, and the action kicks in immediately. In order to rescue someone she loves, Haven Moore is forced to infiltrate the Ouroboros Society and cozy up to Adam Rosier. I don’t think anyone will be able guess what happens from there . . .
As for a book three, I’m going to let the universe make that decision for me. (I have a Kiki Strike book inside my head that’s kicking and screaming to be set free. I’ll need to finish that first!)
3. Do you have a soundtrack of songs that fit the book? If not, what’s one song that you feel describes The Eternal Ones or is a specific characters’ theme?
When I think of the soundtrack for The Eternal Ones, I immediately think of songs that aren’t necessarily rooted in any one time or place (unless it’s New York, of course). The music I’d choose is the sort of stuff will always be around. In fact the songs that were playing in my head while I wrote were—more often than not—Rolling Stones songs. Mick Jagger did sinister and sexy better than anyone. Gimme Shelter, for instance, is the perfect mixture of fear, longing, and foreboding. Miss You is one of the best love songs ever written (as well as being one of the greatest songs about New York City). Paint it Black would be a great addition. And how could I not choose Sympathy for the Devil for my soundtrack? Heh.

I started to buy this when I saw it last weekend but I ended up having to put it back. Really regretting that now so I'll probably be picking it up soon.
Great interview! I have a feeling this book is going to be huge. I always hope I'd have the strength to be in the resistance if I lived in Europe during WWII, but I'm really not sure I would.
I desperately want to read this book. Awesome interview, and I liked the answer to the first question!
