Summary:

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Review:

Paranormalcy is a new and totally unique debut. I bleeping loved it!

The very first page sucked me, as did the entire book. Learning about Evie and her life and work at the IPCA was fascinating. Evie was very different, for many different reasons. I spent half the book trying to figure out what Evie was—she always says she is human, so if she is, why is she able to see through paranormals’ glamours? When the truth came out, I was shocked. I loved reading about Evie. She tries so hard to be normal and live a normal life; I wanted her to have that.

Lend and Evie have an amazing romance. They are shy, sweet, innocent, cute and awkward. They were perfect for each other. Honestly, thinking about them together just gives me warm, happy feelings. They were a breath of a fresh air with their awkwardness—especially when a lot of books are more heated.

I have to say, I have mixed feelings about Reth. Reth is Evie’s ex-boyfriend, and a faerie. There were only a few times I liked him. For the most part, he kind of creeped me out.

Since there are two more books coming—which I am dying for—I was worried that Paranormalcy would end on a horrible cliffhanger, leaving me annoyed with the fact that I would have to wait a year. Luckily, there wasn’t. The ending definitely left you wanting more though.

Cover Comments: Love it! The girl is a pretty good match for Evie and she’s wearing a pink dress; perfect fit!

Overall: 5/5

Interview with Kiersten White:

1) If you could be any supernatural being, what would it be?

Faerie, but only so I could use the Faerie Paths to go anywhere in the world on a whim. The whole immortality and amorality thing I could do without.

2) Why does Evie love pink so much?

I think it stems from her desire to be absolutely normal and mainstream, and pink is (in her mind) the ultimate normal girl color.

3) What is your favorite part about being an author?

Writing! Which I seem to be doing less and less of these days… However, it’s also been amazing getting notes from actual teenagers who have read and enjoyed my book.

4) What are you currently reading?

I just finished Beth Revis’s Across the Universe and Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay. Both very good.

5) What are you working on now?

This interview. After which I’ll probably answer another one. Bookwise, however, I just finished up a round of edits on Supernaturally, the sequel to Paranormalcy. This fall I hope to finish an Ultra Top Secret Project, and then the third Paranormalcy book, and then edits on a ghost story I wrote a while back and am still trying to get just right!

Sounds awesome! Thanks for the interview Kiersten!
