Sunday Post is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Yeah, I’m late again…It’s been a really hectic (but mostly nice) weekend and I just haven’t had time to do a Sunday Post write-up. But here we go!!
For those in the U.S., the Super Bowl is currently going on. My family is rooting for Peyton Manning and the Broncos. I’m using this time to try and get some things finished online – though I do like the various commercials. They tend to have some really funny ones!
Like I’ve mentioned before, the libraries near me are lucky enough to be able to put on a lot of fun craft type programs for adults. I attended two library events in the past week, so here are some pictures of what my mom and I created! At one of the libraries near me, they are always doing craft programs for adults and this past Monday, we made some Valentine’s Day themed table decorations using a glass jar, those green foam blocks to help keep the sticks standing up, some hearts on sticks, heart ornaments, pom pom balls, colored sand, and other little fun additions!
The above photo is my centerpiece. I used a long/straight glass jar. The green foam is at the bottom and I stuck in three heart topped sticks so they would stand up. I used various Valentine’s Day ribbon to wrap around the sticks as you can hopefully see in the bottom left hand picture. I used pom pom balls to fill in my ornament, which is hanging down the side of the glass (top right picture). Hopefully all these pics show you some more of the details!
The above collage are pictures of my mom’s centerpiece. She used colored sand to fill in her heart ornament (bottom left photo) and the rest of the glass was decorated using heart sticks, ribbon, and some doilies and heart gems, among other items! It’s really full and pretty. I love the ribbon wrapped around the jar, which is how she connected her heart ornament.
The next library event was actually yesterday morning. We went to a library we had never visited before and did DIY Candy, which was tons of fun. I hope to attend more events there! Using Wilton’s chocolate, we piped in various chocolate into molds and then used sprinkles and the like to decorate (if we wished). These molds were placed in the freezer for five to ten minutes and voila, homemade chocolate! We bagged them up and were ready to go! It was so much fun and I’m definitely make homemade chocolate again the future, because it was super easy. These would be great  gifts.
Here is a look at some of the chocolate that we made! These are all the ones I did, but my mom made some of her own daisy chocolate pops. There weren’t enough sticks by the end so I didn’t put them in all flowers. I made the little hearts first and those don’t allow for sticks. I put some upside down so you can see the sprinkles I added. It’s easier for those to show up if you put them on back instead of trying to put them down first and add chocolate later.
Another look at some of the chocolate I made! My mom did the flowers and she had a different color for the center and another one for the petals. If I had made these first, I’d have done the same, but I was trying to use what was available! Again, the chocolate used are Wilton chocolate wafers – you just melt them. If you want tips on how to make these, let me know!
While those were the two library events, my mom and I also went to a place called Cheers to Art today. I’ve done this a couple times in the past but it was my mom’s first time. You sign up for the painting you want to do, go to the studio, and the instructor shows you how to paint it using step-by-step instructions. I got my mom a gift card for Christmas (and she happened to get the same for me) so we went today and made some beautiful neon flowers!
The above are the canvases that my mom and I painted today. Aren’t they cool looking? The one on the left is mine, and the one on the right is my mom’s painting. We’re putting hers up in the house and since I live at home, I’d decided to give my grandma mine for her birthday in May. For now, we’ll store mine, but I know she’ll love it! I really like how bright the colors are and how they stick out in the end.

  1. OH wow, that's a cool! How much for the classes? I'm not that crafty, I can throw a party with such pizazz so your classes might come in handy.

And I want those Choco pops

  2. So great that your library has so many different kind of programs – and not just book-related. Your Valentine's decoration are so cute! I've been wanting to do one of the painting things for ages (and there are always Groupon deals for them) but they always seem to be at bars/restaurants where part of the "package" is a 2 drink minimum requirement. I don't drink so… meh. They seem to combine the paint nights with wine events and I'm just not interested. I need to hunt around for a painting-only place. I'm sure your grandmother will love the painting you did!

  3. Oh that's right, your library is awesome 😀
Making candy, centerpieces, and things I generally would love to try. I'm glad you are having fun with all of it. Your painting from Cheers to Art is really beautiful. I would love to try that out one day.

  4. I don't watch much football. I'm more of a basketball and baseball fan, but I'm glad the Broncos won! Only because I was born in Denver ha! The Valentine's Day crafts you made are lovely, Lauren. I really like the one with the colored sand 🙂

  5. I saw a lot of tweets about the superbowl from those who live in the US. It's great your library offers those craft programs, your decorations both look great and I hope you had fun creating them!

I've made chocolates like that a few times, you can use ice block molds to get fun shapes.

Those canvases you painted look great! I like how bright the colours are. I hope you'll have a great week!

  6. I watched the superbowl, down here in Aus. I just wanted to watch the half time entertainment. Was pretty good!
Looks lied you have been busy with craft again… those chocolates! Yummo!

  7. My friend invited me and my boyfriend to watch the Superbowl at her house. She always invite us because her family makes tacos and burritos, yummy! I'm not really a fan of football, but we didn't want to miss the half time show 🙂

  8. Your crafts are all so awesome! The DIY candy event sounds like it was a lot of fun. I don't think I'd make it home without eating all of my finished crafting projects, especially when chocolate is involved, lol.
