Glossies Made Me Do It: January 2017

Posted January 6, 2017 by shooting in Uncategorized / 18 Comments

I subscribe to a lot of magazines. Like, a lot. It seems my reading addiction doesn’t stop with books, and I’m okay with that. However, I thought it would be fun to start trying out some of the things that I read in these magazines and I enlisted two bloggers that I love to do this with me every month.

Do you want to take part? We’ll all be posting on the first Friday of the month, so everyone has time to buy the magazine issue we talk about (everyone chooses their magazine of choice; it could overlap sometimes though!)

Now, who are these bloggers?

Ashley of Happy.Pretty.Sweet and Erika of Cat Eyes and Skinny Jeans. Be sure to visit their blog today to see what glossies made them do!

I decided to use the January 2017 issue of Oprah Magazine as I came across this product: Revlon Colorstay Creme Eye Shadow and I really wanted to try it out. It reminded me of the creme eye shadows from Mary Kay, which I’d used and loved in the past, so I had a feeling I would enjoy this one.

One of the sections in O Magazine is Val’s Guide to Gorgeous and in the January issue, O’s Beauty Director shares some beauty things she currently loves and these creme eye shadows were included. I immediately knew I wanted to try this eye shadow, so I decided to grab a color for this month’s feature. I chose the color praline because it’s kind of a mix of gold and bronze, but light. I didn’t want to get anything too out there until I’d tried the product.

Verdict? Love the color, and I’ll have to get more shades when I can. Each color is about $8 which isn’t bad at all. Plus, I can really see these lasting a long time!

What I really love about this is that it comes with a built in brush. Hopefully you can see in the above photo, but the black part of the eye shadow container hides a brush that you just slide out. I’m sure you could easily use your finger, or another brush to put this eye shadow on, but I love that it comes with something you can use. Plus, it’s built in so you aren’t going to lose it when you need to put on your eye shadow. I used the brush to put on my color and it worked really well. You’ll want to put some pressure when swiping the brush with the color so it attaches, but definitely easy to use!

So, I love the package, I love the color. What do you think?

You might need to click the photo to make it larger, but the above photo is me holding the January 17 O issue, as well as showing off myself wearing the eye shadow. It’s a lighter color, so it was hard to capture, but you can see it better in person. If you can see it a bit, what do you think?

If no, would you try this product yourself? Who else subscribes to magazines? If you want to do your own post, let us know and we’ll try adding a link up every month for people to hop around!

  1. The colour is so pretty, I have a similar one from Maybelline and can't live without it! 🙂 I love the idea for this series of posts, looking forward to more stories from you girls! Have a great day! xx

  2. What a fun idea for a series 🙂 I always read my magazines when I take bubble baths and I mark the pages I want to go back to by folding the corner back. I never seem to go back to them, tho, unless it's something I can't forget. This makes me want to go back and look for fun 🙂 That eye shadow is very pretty! I love neutral colors that still have a little punch to them. 🙂

  3. Yaaaasss! Colors like this are my favorite – and the formula makes them so easy for quick eye looks. I am totally going to pick this one up! It looks beautiful on you!

    xx

  4. I've been wanting to try those ColorStay creme eye shadows for a while now. I'd probably start with a similar color – something kind of subtle. Great to hear that you give it a thumbs up! And I love this new feature!

  5. A wonderful reminder that I really need to step up my makeup routine–love the subtle shade! Very pretty. Also Ashley is one of my favorites and always excited to learn about Erika. What a fun series!

Hope you're enjoying your weekend 🙂

  6. I've learned about a new color today! I didn't know praline existed. It is a nice color. 😀 And that price definitely isn't bad. I don't really wear makeup or a lot of beauty products so I prefer a lot of simple products, if any. I'd definitely look at more posts about these in the future though. =)

    Have a lovely week!
