The Lego Movie

Review by Lauren

IMDB Summary: An ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together.

Review: When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I thought it looked really funny and I recognized a lot of the voices in it, which is always a plus. So when it came out, I decided to go with my sister and a friend of mine. The final verdict? Too funny!! We all loved it and would be happy to see it again. Seriously. The voices were fantastic, the characters were crazy and loveable, and there was a fun twist near the end that left me even more excited about the overall film.

The Lego Movie is definitely how these toy movies need to be made…but I suppose making it an animated comedy instead of a serious live-action film definitely helps. The main character, Emmet (Chris Pratt), is a regular guy just living his life the same day-to-day. He’s positive, yet eager to please others, so when he thinks he’s found the chance to be “special”, he grabs on and does his best. In person, Chris Pratt is funny and adorable, and he brings all those qualities to his role as Emmet. All the voices stood out (with many big-name stars) and it definitely brought these characters to life.

We get Elizabeth Banks as WyldStyle, an eccentric girl who takes Emmet under her wing. Then there is the infamous Batman, voiced oh so wonderfully by Will Arnett. He seriously had some of the best lines! You’ll be quoting him for days.

Furthermore, there is a fun twist to the movie that I did not see coming. It came off really well, in my opinion, and I think it helps make the movie. There is a great overall message to the story, which is nice for kids, but it’s not too much. It blends nicely with the overall humor and adventure.

This is definitely a must-see for kids, but that includes kids of all ages, as I think a lot of adults will really love it too. You get familiar voices, lots of great humor, and an overall fun film that welcomes a repeat!

  1. I took my kids to see this, and so agree with you. I couldn't believe the creativity and attention to detail. And the message. At first the twist at the ending shocked me, and I wasn't too thrilled, but I ended up loving it.
    Great review!

  2. I never gave this one a second glance because I was never a fan of Legos so I never thought I'd see this movie, but I'm really glad that it's super funny! And I love Elizabeth Banks 😀 Great review! <33

  3. I just saw this one this weekend and I loved it too! I was a bit concerned initially that it might be a bit gimmicky, but in the end I thought it was brilliant! And I thought the twist really brought it together.
