2015 Discussion Challenge – Bookish Items You Love

Posted January 2, 2015 by shooting in Uncategorized / 26 Comments

There are so many challenges to sign up for this year, but I know that I’ll have a difficult time keeping track and remembering to link up as I do things, so I figured I’d just sit out challenges this year. That is until I heard about the 2015 Discussion Challenge, co-hosted by Feed Your Fiction Addiction and It Starts at Midnight. You can learn more and sign up here.

The first level is Discussion Dabbler which is 1-12 discussion posts this year. I’m aiming for 12 right now, which is one a month, but I would like to do more. Discussion posts are one of my favorite things to read on other blogs so I hope to do it more here.

If you sign up for this challenge, you can enter to win a $15 book of choice to The Book Depository, and this link also allows you to see what other challenge members are posting/talking about this month.

I’m currently hosting my own giveaway for a book up to $15 from TBD and to enter that, you have to do one of two discussion type posts by January 17. If you sign up for this challenge, and do my discussion post idea, you get two chances to win some book money. You just can’t go wrong!

I hope to have an actual discussion post up soon, but to get people taking now, I’ll leave you all with a question:

*What bookish items (not actual books though) did you get for the holidays? Or what bookish items do you need to buy yourself this year?

  1. I'm also participating in the Discussion Challenge. My RL folks weren't very loving towards me for the holidays, so I didn't get any books or bookish things. :/ It's OK, though, because I want to get rid of stuff. The only thing I can think off the top of my head that I want is the amazing stack of books ornament Jessica shared last week on A GREAT Read, and some cool reading-related Tshirts.

  2. Awesome challenge Lauren, I look forward to reading more discussions on Shooting Stars (and lovely makeover too, love it!)

It was mainly books I'd received for Christmas, but just went out and bought a new desk and floor to ceiling bookshelves to design my own at home library / office. Hubby and I have been putting flatpacks together in this sweltering Australian heat. Think I'll leave the rest of it go until it cools down though.

Happy new year Lauren and look forward to reading more of your thoughts and reviews throughout 2015 <3

  3. AHH LAUREN I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR NEW BLOG LOOK xD Anyway, this sounds like a really fun challenge that isn't to do with reading books! I might consider participating, too πŸ˜‰

    Best of luck <33

  4. Great idea for a challenge! Thanks for sharing!

My favorite gift by far was a replica of the "Monster Book of Monsters" from Harry Potter!!!

The first bookish thing I've bought for myself is a Kobo Aura eReader because I wanted to be able to buy eBooks from my favorite indie bookstore.

  5. Love reading discussion posts, so think this is a great idea for a challenge! I should start writing posts like this since I enjoy reading them, but can never seem to come up with a topic. Looking forward to reading your upcoming posts!

  6. What a great challenge! I'm hoping to do something unofficially, because I really do want to post more than reviews and memes on my blog, and I have discussion ideas… so here's to lots of good blog conversations in 2015!

  7. I recently purchased a tote from Pivot Book Totes. Becca (the owner) is so talented! I also really like the bookmarks from Crafted Van. I received some fun bookmarks and bags over Christmas πŸ™‚ I love the sound of this challenge!

  8. This sounds like an awesome challenge! I hope you have fun with it!

As for bookish items, I didn't get any for Christmas! I haven't bought book related items in a while. Though I did purchase some Howl's Moving Castle things for a friend (that's related more to the Ghibli movie though)

  9. I should sign-up for this cuz I’d KILL it. I post 1 discussion post a week, so x 52 = Gift of the Gab. Trying to get me to participate in challenges is like attempting to get blood from a stone though, so… Can’t wait to weigh-in on some of your topics.

  10. Here's my best to you on that challenge. I'll look for your discussion posts. As to bookish items: I bought ten books and gobbled them up during Dec.

    Happy New Year.

  11. Sounds like a lot of fun. I look forward to reading how you progress. I'm actually very tempted to join in but given that I've promised myself no more challenges this year (apart from my usual two) I may well just content myself with joining in as and when.

  12. Such a good challenge, since I've started blogging I've only had around 3, so I'm only aiming for 5 right now, haha. But it's so hard to come up with something nobody else has done, or a different angle of it. I actually didn't get much bookish stuff this year (I only actually had 2 box sets The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) so I bought some books myself, but I'm turning my landing into a mini-library so I need to get a lot of bookish things! πŸ™‚

  13. The dreaded Discussion posts! I am always trying to think of some. I love it when they just come to me. Those are the best ones. But most of the time I just sit around trying to think of a topic.

  14. I love reading discussion posts so this is a challenge I want to keep an eye on (though I don't normally post many so I won't sign up myself). BTW, I'm sure this is much belated due to the looooong break I took, but I absolutely LOVE the new look on the blog – so gorgeous! Happy new year!
