Sunday Post (15): Hosting LGBT Book Blog Tours + Instagram Love

Sunday Post is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer

Oh goodness, it’s been awhile since I’ve done a Sunday Post so this one will be a bit different. More of an update on things than focused on past or upcoming posts.

-Lauren

1. First off, I wrote this on Twitter but haven’t gotten a reply yet, so I thought I’d share here too. Does anyone know how to make a graphic for Instagram? There is a “feature” of sorts that I want to start doing over there, but I need a graphic for some of the posts. It’s just something fun and different, I think. Also, follow me if you like! I’m having fun trying my hand at bookstagram, among other things!

2. I’m hosting a follower giveaway for a signed AND personalized copy of Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I’d love for you all to enter – I’m afraid it’s only open to U.S. and Canada but hopefully I can make some sort of of international giveaway work in the near future. I made a little graphic if you want to share the giveaway!

The blood spatter aspect was inspired by Evie Seo’s design on Society 6 for this book.

3. Since I’m not going to really look back at previous posts (but feel free to do so), I did want to share my Saturday post in case you all missed it. It went up a bit later than I wanted. It’s a review of the first book in a new middle grade series called Wonder Woman at Super Hero High by Lisa Yee. I really loved it!

4. Survey of Sorts: I did this on Twitter, but not all of you are on there or follow me, so I’ll post here too – if I do a social media giveaway, where do you want to enter? Twitter, Instagram, or Your Choice of Either? I’m leaning to your choice – as that’s what Twitter wanted, but just checking!

5. FINALLY – I’m going to start doing blog tours for authors who write LGBT+ books. Well, that’s the plan…I have to contact authors and get the word out more. However, I wanted to start a master list of sorts of bloggers who would be interested in learning about these blog tour opportunities. I just need your email! You aren’t required to help with every book (obviously!) The idea is to just get the word out when I do start working with authors and those bloggers that can or wish to help with that particular book can reply back! Please spread the word about this too if you can – even if you don’t want to sign up. I’d like to have a good list going before I offer my services! If you DO want to take part – just leave me your email below or email me: lauren51990 AT aol DOT com

  1. I use picmonkey to make graphics. It is rather user friendly. You would need to download it to your phone. You can email it to yourself, then upload to add to instagram. I wish you could add images from your pc directly. I am following you on Instagram.Good luck with the tour biz. As for follows I try to include a few follow options. Have a fantastic week!

  2. I use Phonto. It's a phone app that lets you create simple graphics. You can even impose text on images. If you start blog tour for LGBT books, count me in!

  3. I hosted a few instagram book photo challenges- I just made a picture on my computer then emailed it to my phone and used that image to upload to Instagram. I like picmonkey for graphic making, since I'm pretty hopeless at it!

  4. If you ever need any help with graphics and stuff Lauren, just shoot me off an email. Always happy to help you out. I haven't been on Twitter much lately and usually it's mostly while the rest of the world is asleep, but I still think traditional blog giveaways are still the easiest for everyone to enter but it really comes down to what's easier for you.

I'd love to help out with any YA LGBT+ books, but having a tight reading and blogging schedule I would have to stick to social media promos mostly. Just let me know Lauren <3 <3

  5. This sounds amazing, Lauren! I think authors who write LGTBQIA novels don't get enough credit or attention so it's so important to support them and get the word out about their novels because they are in the minority. I'm really excited to see who you manage to bring on your blog and also to add so many more books to my TBR as a result. 🙂

  6. I'm kind of boring on Instagram, Lauren.. I just take a picture and post it – no filters, no nothing. I'm too lazy to start doing the beautiful artsy stuff – but I love that some people take the time to do it.
I am trying to scale down on blogtours, but I might be interested in LGBTQ titles every now and then… my e-mail is mclexxie (at) gmail (dot) com.
Have a fantastic week and happy reading.

  7. I need to do something about Instagram – It is soooo big. My pics are so boring on there. I need to make a list of everything I need to do!

I own an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription so I have no clue on the freebie sites. I've heard PicMonkey is good, though! Canva, too.

And what Kimba said about getting graphics to Instagram… it's a total pain in the butt, that's for sure!!!

Good luck with the tours!! I think that's a great idea!
