Review: You might remember my review of When I was Joe and how excited I was to check out the sequel…well, here it is, Almost True (with one more to go in the trilogy- though already released). I wish I had written this review sooner after finishing the book, but life certainly gets in the way. However, I do have to say that I enjoyed this one just as much as the first…and it was even better in some ways!
You get to know more about Ty, his family, and the secrets that they are all trying to hide for various reasons. The stakes in this one are definitely higher for Ty as well. He’s more in danger, and someone does die instead of him in the opening pages. Ty is also being investigated by the police for things he kept secret from them in the first book. I don’t want to go into too much detail as I know many of you haven’t read When I was Joe.
Basically, what you need to know is that Ty is a great character to read about, as he’s multi-faceted and realistic. He doesn’t always do the right thing, but he does try. He genuinely cares about his mum, even when he hates her for not being the best mother. He wants Claire, his friend-then-girlfriend from the first book, to stay safe…even if that means losing her. He also really wishes that he could be Joe again, when he was popular and cool (with friends that stuck by him).
Almost True gives you new characters, more action and suspense, a bit of romance, family dynamics, and a whole lot of growing up and facing the consequences of bad choices.
Second books in trilogies are hard. Good to see that this one doesn't disappoint.

This does sound good! I remember your review of the other one and it sounds super twisty (awesome!)! It's weird that I haven't heard more about this series.
Oh cool – glad you liked this sequel because I recall you really loved the first book! This one sounds intense.
