Dare To Question: Carrie Chapman Catt’s Voice for the Vote
Written by Jasmine A. Stirling
Illustrated by Udayana Lugo
Review: Have you heard of Susan B. Anthony and her fight for Women’s Right to Vote? Chances are you have. I know it’s true for me. But what about Carrie Chapman Catt, who Susan B. Anthony asked to lead the movement in 1900? Yeah, I hadn’t heard of her either. This is one woman that history should not forget and I thought this picture book did a great job sharing her backstory and everything she did to get women the right to vote…all women, not just white women.
I feel like I should know more about how the Women’s Right to Vote came to be, but unfortunately, I’m missing a lot from my history lessons. This picture book was a wonderful guide. It’s perfect for readers of most ages. While there is a lot of words, it’s broken up in a way that makes it easy to read and digest. The illustrations that accompany the story are beautifully done. The two really work well together!
If you want to know more about Carrie Chapman Catt, the Women’s Vote, the Suffrage Movement, and how a mom’s letter changed the course of history…you must pick up this book! I’m so grateful I had the chance to read it.
