Local Tourist: Dinner in an Igloo at Frosthaus

I asked for feedback on what type of posts you’d all like to see going forward, and I had a lot of interest in Local Tourist posts, so here we go! The first one of 2024.

Local Tourist: Frosthaus Igloo

I don’t know if it’s like this near where you live, but there’s a lot of establishments around me that have igloos during the winter. They are set up so you can eat outside while it’s rainy and/or cold and still enjoy good company and nice food. I’ve been wanting to try out the Igloo at Frosthaus, since I like the restaurant. I ended up going with some friends and my sister, and we had a great time.

Frosthaus is a bar and restaurant in Covington, KY. I’d been a few times before so I knew I’d have some yummy options when I made the Igloo reservations. If you want to try out their Igloo, it’s $25 and you get that money back as a gift card at the end of your stay.

There is a specific amount of money you have to spend depending on when you go though. We had a reservation for a Friday night, so we had to spend at least $100, which isn’t hard with the five of us. You can have up to 8 people in the Igloo but I think 5-6 is a good amount so you aren’t too crowded. It was a rainy night when we went, but it just made the vibes a lot more cozy and fun.

We had two space heaters in the Igloo that kept us all cozy and warm. The Igloo also zips up when the waiter isn’t in there, so you don’t have to worry about outside weather encroaching on your space. We were also given a Bluetooth speaker to listen to our own music if we wanted to, so it’s definitely set up to be accommodating and fun.

There are plenty of alcoholic options, but I went with the non-alcoholic Pineapple Upside Down drink. It’s so yummy! As for food, I got pretzel sticks and beer cheese, which were absolutely amazing, and jalapeno tator tots (spicy but worth it!) I think everyone ended up enjoying the food and drinks they got, so it was a very successful evening. There are drink and food options for kids so you’re more than welcome to bring your family sometime too!

Have you ever “stayed” in an Igloo for dinner or drinks? Would you?

  1. This was a big thing during covid, I’d not noticed places doing it during winter since but I really liked the idea when places started doing them. I love that you had a Bluetooth speaker for your own music. It seems like a great idea for going out with a group.
