Official Summary:

Abigail Donovan has a lot of stuff she should be doing. Namely writing her next novel. A bestselling author who is still recovering from a near Pulitzer Prize win and the heady success that follows Oprah’s stamp of approval, she is stuck at Chapter Five and losing confidence daily. But when her publicist signs her up for a Twitter account, she’s intrigued. What’s all the fuss?

Taken under the wing of one of her Twitter followers, “MarkBaynard”—a quick witted, quick-typing professor on sabbatical—Abby finds it easy to put words out into the world 140 characters at a time. And once she gets a handle on tweets, retweets, direct messages, hashtags, and trends, she starts to feel unblocked in writing and in life. After all, why should she be spending hours in her apartment staring at her TweetDeck and fretting about her stalled career when Mark is out there traveling the world and living?

Or is he?

Told almost entirely in tweets and DMs, Goodnight Tweetheart is a truly modern take on a classic tale of love and loss—a Griffin and Sabine for the Twitter generation.

Review:

Personally, I think it’s fun to read books where one of the characters is an author or writer. I know, I know, it’s pretty typical these days…but as someone who would love to be published, these type of books are relatable for me. Abigail is an interesting character. She’s a great writer but has a lot of doubt about her abilities to write something new…especially when her first novel was based so much around her real life. Where does she go from there? She’s a lot of fun though, as you see from her new relationship with Mark. As the summary says, most of her conversations with him are done over twitter and Direct Messages (a part of twitter, in case you were unaware).

The two of them together are fun, quirky, but also deep and philosophical at times. I love when authors mix up the way they write a book…adding emails or letters or other similar ideas. This book is written like a regular novel some of the time but a large part of it are tweets, which is a different change of pace. Plus, it helps move the book along really well. I found this to be a fun and fast read.

I actually handed the book over to my mom as soon as I was finished and she’s reading it now. I think it’s something a lot of different people would enjoy. Sure, it’s a bit predictable…but it’s a cute book and I really did feel for the characters, which is a good thing. ALSO, there is a lot of pop culture talk throughout which is kind of enjoyable. Sometimes it’s fun to read a book that is filled with references of your time…even GLEE.

Product that Fits the Book

As a large part of the book deals with Twitter, I thought this would be a great item to add along with the novel. It would make a fun little gift! As you can see from the photo below, it’s a necklace with your twitter name on it. For me, it would be @shootingstarmag. To buy your own, go here!
