IMM: Books I Bought!

Posted April 26, 2009 by shooting in Uncategorized / 24 Comments

Lenore from had a post last week similar to the In My Mailbox ones…except this was all about the books she’d bought herself and not recieved through the library, ARCS, or contest wins.

I really liked the idea and figured it might be nice to try and post these as well whenever I buy something (or almost every time, just depends). Recently, I picked up two books that were just released and sounded amazing. I was so excited and I can’t wait to read them…though it might be a little while, as books I buy are put at the bottom of my TBR pile. Review books are always first.

As you can see from the photo above, the first book was Gentleman by Michael Northrop:

Micheal, Tommy, Mixer, and Bones aren’t just from the wrong side of the tracks–they’re from the wrong side of everything. Except for Mr. Haberman, their remedial English teacher, no one at their high school takes them seriously. Haberman calls them “gentlemen,” but everyone else ignores them–or, in Bones’s case, is dead afraid of them. When one of their close-knit group goes missing, the clues all seem to point in one direction: to Mr. Haberman.

Gritty, fast-paced, and brutally real, this debut takes an unflinching look at what binds friends together–and what can tear them apart.

The other book that I bought was The Reformed Vampire Support Group by Catherine Jinks:

Think vampires are romantic, sexy, and powerful? Think again. Vampires are dead. And unless they want to end up staked, they have to give up fanging people, admit their addiction, join a support group, and reform themselves.

Nina Harrison, fanged at fifteen and still living with her mother, hates the Reformed Vampire Support Group meetings every Tuesday night. Even if she does appreciate Dave, who was in a punk band when he was alive, nothing exciting ever happens. That is, until one of group members is mysteriously destroyed by a silver bullet. With Nina (determined to prove that vamps aren’t useless or weak) and Dave (secretly in love with Nina) at the helm, the misfit vampires soon band together to track down the hunter, save a werewolf, and keep the world safe from the likes of themselves.

So what do you think of my purchases? Do they look appealing to you at all? Do you own these books? I’d love to know the books you’ve bought on your own recently, so leave a link in the comments for your own post or simply let me know!

Hey! I was just holding that Vampire Support Group book in my hands on Friday. I had never heard of it before and it interested me (only I didn’t have the money). So I will be looking forward to your review!

  3. Ohhh such good books. I don’t know how many times i have been to the book store, picked up Gentlemen to only put it back. I am thinking that the cover is really freaking me out still…

  4. Gentlemen looks really good. I bought it after seeing the cover in Kristi’s first vlog. I can’t wait for it to arrive!

I’m looking forward to your review of that one!

  5. I’m not a huge vampire book fan, but I love the other Catherine Jinks books I’ve read, so I’ll probably check it out…

  6. AH! I loved The Reformed Vampire Support Group! I hope you love it as much as I did, it’s a great new take on vampires. As for Gentlemen, I’ve had it on my wishlist on amazon for a little while wondering if I should just buy it already. I’m still on the fence. Should I just jump?

  7. Perla: Awesome, I loved the sound of it. Vampires are great, but you need to make them different. I think you should jump. I haven’t read it yet, but I mean…it looks amazing, doesn’t it??

Erin: You should, it sounds really different and a little funnier then other vampire books so you might like it more!

Prophecy Girl: Oh yay for buying it too, and I hope I can get a shot to read it sometime soon. It’s just calling to me!

Ravenous Reader: It is a bit creepy, but I must say I love it. Did you see Melissa Walker’s post with the author about the covers? Imagine the last cover and it shouldn’t be too freaky! 🙂

    Fantastic Book Review: Thank you!

Kristi: She says HI back, and thank you! I figured it was about time I bought some new ones. I keep going into book stores with no money or anything, so I finally planned it out. haha

Cat: Thank you, I’ll try and read it as soon as I can then. It looks pretty worth it though if you find you have money next time. 🙂

    H:I know, I love it!

Mitzy: me too, as soon as I even saw it, I had to have it. So you know, it wasn’t too hard to pick up a copy and take it home. lol

Robin: Yay, I’m glad to hear!
Sales on books are great. and I love going to the library ones.

Thao: Thank you so much, and I hope you get a chance to read it soon then.

  8. It’s also fun to see which books people actually buy too. And I love supporting authors with our wallets 🙂 Thanks for doing this!

  9. Lenore: I do agree. There are so many I wish I could buy too. As do I. I try and buy as many books as I can…it would, of course, be so much more if I was rich. LOL
    No problem.
