Mini Book Reviews: The Measure and More

Hi everyone! If you have your own post to link up (it closes today or tomorrow…) you can do so here. I didn’t have my own reviews to share last week, but I’m here today to share some mini reviews of books I’ve read recently.

The Measure by Nikki Erlick

I read this for one of my book clubs in January, and it’s definitely a good one to discuss with other people. It was actually chosen this month for another book club I’m in, and we are going to start talking about it tomorrow. I will say that it brought back a lot from the beginning of Covid and the pandemic, so if that’s still too fresh for you, The Measure might not be a good read right now. It also deals a lot with death and premature death, so again, check the trigger/content warnings. I gave it four stars. I thought it was really interesting how the various stories and people throughout the book ended up connected.

With Love, From Cold World by Alicia Thompson

I really loved this author’s book Love in the Time of Serial Killers. I wasn’t as big of a fan of Cold World. I ended up giving it three stars. I think the first half was a bit too slow for me. I did like how things picked up halfway through though, and I am curious to see what the author writes next.

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

This was another book club choice (I’m in three book clubs, by the way) and I’m glad because it’s one I’ve owned since it came out and yet have never read. It’s definitely an emotional read, but I really liked it. Full of great moments to think and discuss on, and lots of great quotes, which is common for a John Green book. I would recommend! However, the main character has OCD/Anxiety and that made me a bit anxious to read about as I have anxiety and OCD-like tendences, so definitely check trigger warnings.

That’s it from me this month! Thanks for reading, and leave your thoughts in the comments.

I’ve been wanting to read The Measure. I started listening to Turtles All the Way Down on audiobook but I had such a hard time with the thought spirals and listening to them. I thought I might be able to read it myself better but I had forgotten about it.
