Weekending: Mother/Daughter Date Day

Posted March 12, 2018 by shooting in Cincinnati, TV/Movies / 42 Comments

It’s Monday, and we’ve lost an hour of sleep. However, I did have a really good weekend and I thought I’d share a little bit about that today. On Saturday, I had a “day date” with my mom where we had lunch, got some cupcakes, did a little shopping, and then saw a movie!

We had our lunch at Mt. Adams Bar and Grill, which has been around for awhile but my mom and I had never been. I got one of their brunch options and their pancakes are seriously amazing. We’ll definitely be going back!

As part of my mom’s Christmas gift, I got her a certificate that would let her choose 12 cupcakes of her choice from 3 Sweet Girls Cakery. After lunch, we visited the bakery to see what cupcakes they had available and chose our dozen. We just ate our first ones a minute ago, and boy are they yummy! Their shop had so many cute options – from cake pops to cookies – that I’m sure I’ll be back. There is a lot that would make a lovely gift!

For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the flavor for those first three (at the top) but the others are a mix of vanilla and wedding cake. They had other options, but all of those had fillings so you’d have to pay the extra 25 cents, which isn’t a problem, but we’re not huge fans of fillings so we just went with the “free” choices.

Finally, we went to the Kenwood Theater (which has so many fun food options from your typical popcorn to cupcakes and macaroons from a local bakery). I had a coupon for a free small popcorn that my mom and I shared (if you’re local, sign up for their newsletter to get your own coupon). We decided to see Game Night as it looked really funny and we’d heard good things. It’s definitely an enjoyable movie, with plenty of laugh out loud moments. I wouldn’t say I’d rush to go and see it in theaters, but it’s worth watching at some point! Both my mom and I enjoyed it.

  1. OhhhI love so much what you shared here. My mom lives out of state but when we see each other, we try to do things like this too. Pedicures and her favorite pralines are a MUST! It’s always a good time.

  2. How fun! I legit see my mom almost every day and we are always running around doing errands together but it’s not often we get to do it without a kid or two or three tagging along. Those cupcakes look good and I’m glad you enjoyed the movie.

  3. Aw that sounds like such a fun weekend with your mom! I’m drooling over all those yummy cupcakes. My mom lives near me for part of the year (late spring to early fall–she goes to FL during the winter) and this makes me want to plan a fun day with her when she gets back!

  4. Awww, I love that you had a date with your mom! I haven’t done one of these in a long time, but we like shopping together and getting something to eat. There are a lot of movies out though that she’s mentioned wanting to see, and I’d love to take her 🙂 Also I love that you incorporated cupcakes into your day, simply because 🙂

  5. I bet you guys had the best day ever and your mom loved every single moment of it. You are a great daughter and I am sure she was gleaming ear to ear about it all weekend.

  6. Sounds like a great weekend! I have been wanting to see Game Night, I am glad to know I don’t need to rush to see it. I went to lunch with a friend. We tried out a new restaurant! I had a gourmet mac n’ cheese dish – delicious!

  7. That sounds like such a fun day date with your momma, and those cupcakes sound like a great gift idea! Your movie theater sounds way cooler than mine, we just have the regular popcorn and candy, no cafe style treats to choose from! I need to see Game Night, it looks really funny. Right after Wrinkle in Time lol!

  8. I love that you and your mom do so many fun things together. My mom and I didn’t start doing day dates until a few years ago and I really wish we had made more of an effort when I was younger. Mr. Adams Bar and Grill looks like such a cute restaurant too and reading about those pancakes has me craving breakfast for dinner, lol.

  9. Just love that you did a day date with your mom! And, that cupcake gift is just perfect! I would love to pick out 12 different cupcakes! Our theater just got bought out by a new company and I am just loving all of the new food options!

  10. I’m thinking the top three might be cookies and cream? What a beautiful day out for you and your mum Lauren, those cupcakes look delicious! That little bar and grill looks gorgeous, straight out of a small town romance film. Thrilled you both had such a wonderful date, you’re the sweetest Lauren <3 <3
