Official Summary: The Severn family—Jeff and his wife Phyllis, Lynette and her new fiancé, and single Andy—has gathered at the mountain home of their grandmother, Mary Agnes Severn, to celebrate Thanksgiving and hear an announcement regarding their late grandfather’s will. With news of an escaped convict in the hills, everyone is barely settled in before a huge snowstorm strands them in the large old house with only gas lamps and lanterns to keep the darkness away.
Review: I love a good mystery and boy, was this was a good mystery! I had no idea who the culprit was and the end was definitely one big surprise that had me looking back at the book with new, open eyes. What I love about DSP Publications is that they publish m/m fiction that focuses on more than just the romance, which essentially means genre fiction. I’ve read a variety of books from them now and this is one of my favorites!
The book follows the Severn family who are visiting their grandmother, Mary Agnes, for Thanksgiving. She has news about her husband’s will, except this is not the best time to be having these discussions. An escaped convict is supposedly hanging out near the house and a large snow storm keeps the whole family, three servants, and sheriff Roger Dickerson stuck in the old house for days. The scene is set for a suspenseful mystery!
Since this book focuses more on the mystery and family relationships, there isn’t a lot of romance, but there is some! Andy and the sheriff, Roger, seem to be hitting it off, having known each other growing up. Can they trust each other though? Can anyone trust anybody in the house? It’s unclear and soon, the servants begin to be killed in the home, raising suspicions about almost everyone. This house is full of secret doors and passageways as well, which makes it difficult to keep track of all the people in the house and gives whoever is the murderer an easier way of navigating around.
Overall, I really loved this mystery, and I would definitely recommend! It’s one you will want to discuss in the end.
I can understand, I love a good mystery as well! so much fun
I love an awesome murder mystery too Lauren, but I'm even more impressed how effortlessly the storyline seems to flow and the inclusion of a M/M romance in there too that's not the sole focus. It feels much more natural, rather than authors throwing in diverse couples just as a point of difference. Wonderful review Lauren, so glad you enjoyed this one <3
Oh man, I love murder mysteries! The summary sounds great, and the romance sounds great, too! Great review!

This sounds good and I'm always up for a good murder mystery! The setting doesn't sound typical either, so I'll be on the look out for it!
This is different. I love a good mystery and the setting.
I like the sound of this one! Is it set in present-day, Lauren? The mention of servants has me wondering.
Ooo a murder mystery! You don't see those very often!
This sounds like a great whodonit and I love the cover. Thanks for sharing and nice review.
I am always up for a good mystery!! I will have to check this out. Great review!!
Ahhh, mysteries are totally my thing, and I've been disappointed with my most anticipated one of this year, so glad this didn't disappoint" And love when you go back over it and pick up the hints.
Ooh, I LOVE books that have romance but don't focus on it. Romance is great, but I like books to have plot too. XD And the mystery aspect sounds particularly awesome here. 😀
I like books with romance as main focus, but also those who include romance, but where it isn't the main focus. Sometimes the romance is even better when it's a subplot. And I love a good mystery! And a house full of secret doors and passageways sounds like a fun setting for a mystery! Great review!
I haven't read a mystery in a long while but I do enjoy them. Glad you enjoyed.
