Movie Review: The Heat

by Lauren

IMDB Summary: An uptight FBI Special Agent is paired with a foul-mouthed Boston cop to take down a ruthless drug lord.

Review: Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are a comedic dream team. I’ve loved both of these ladies for a long time, so it was great to see them pair up for a fun comedy that will hopefully show that actresses can hold their own in a comedy!

I saw this yesterday (July 4th) with my mom as the rain was too bad to do much else. Both of us highly enjoyed it! There is a lot of cussing, which I’d wager is the reason the film is rated R, but it’s mostly from Mullins (McCarthy) and just shows how different she is from Ashburn (Bullock). Both ladies are essential to the movie and it’s great to see how they learn and grow from each other.

They are both great at their respective jobs, but nobody likes to work with them. Putting them together means they have to finally work with a partner who can be just as stubborn as themselves. I loved that Ashburn and Mullins have to deal with people looking down on them as females, as it’s something realistic in today’s world. Regardless, both women fight back and do their job.

I know that sequels aren’t always the best route to go, but I really just want to see these two back on the screen together! I’m sure it would be just as great.

  1. I saw this a couple days ago and loved it too! It was so funny and Bullock and McCarthy were so great together. And it had some touching moments near the end. I think a sequel would be a great idea!

  2. I have been seeing the previews and promos for this and it sure looks fun. I will have to check it out when it comes out on DVD. Too bad that it rained on your Fourth. We finally got out of the rain and had a nice sunny week!

  3. I really liked this one too! Maybe instead of a sequel both of them could star in a different type of movie together? Maybe a road trip movie.

  4. I'm SO pumped to see this! I love McCarthy's dry, sarcastic, crude sense of humor. She kills me! Bullock is awesome. I bet this is a fun albeit swear filled film..lolz..
I saw World War Z a few nights ago then Fast and Furious 6. Both were really good. I love zombies and Brad did a good job. Believe it or not 2 of the zombies provided much needed comic relief.
They were zombies that were so FAST and so vicious and so scary. My hubby kept jumping. lolz
When they invaded Israel. WHOA DOGGY! In less than 10 minutes THOUSANDS of ppl were dead or turning.
Fast and Furious-Cute boys, fast cars, love the story & history of the characters. Jason Statham will be in Pt 7! WOO HOO. *drool*
Sorry you got rained out, but atleast you and Mom got to see a cool flick together 🙂

  5. Oh, this movie just screams FUN! I love Sandra Bullock, she's an amazing actress. 🙂 I'd definitely watch this movie when it comes to my cinema! <3 Anyways, sorry to hear about the rain! It's raining day and night here too. Hopefully we won't catch flu though! >.<

Thank you for the awesome review, Lauren! <3

I want to see this movie SO bad! I'm glad you gave it a good review because if you liked it then I know I for sure will 🙂

  7. Just looking at the picture of Bullock & McCarthy has me laughing! Sandra Bullock is hilarious! I've enjoyed many of her movies. I haven't seen anything with McCarthy yet but I hear she's quite funny, too. Nice that you enjoyed this, Lauren and that it took you out of a rainy day for a couple of hours at least. I'll have to check this out. Great review! 🙂

  8. I really like both of these actresses but don't tend to like movies with a lot of cursing so I avoided it. I'm glad you liked it and that it's been so successful (more films starring women without resorting to just a love story.)
