Thor: The Dark World
Movie Review by Lauren
IMDB Summary: Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
Review: I haven’t seen the first Thor film in awhile. While I remember enjoying it alright, it wasn’t until the other Marvel movies started coming out (including Avengers) that I fell in love with the characters of Thor and his brother Loki. By the time I started hearing about the sequel, Thor: The Dark World, I knew I had to see the movie!
I went with my mom and sister and we all three enjoyed it. I love action films that also mix in humor, because it makes the pacing a lot better (instead of non-stop fighting) and it shows other sides to the characters. I will say that most of the humor comes from Loki, which should be no surprise if you’ve seen The Avengers. He’s a mixed character and definitely my favorite. Yes, he’s the bad guy and currently locked up in the beginning of the film…but he’s also got some layers and is always keeping you guessing.
I read part of a review for this movie after seeing the film and they mentioned that Loki seemed to be the only character with insides, and while I don’t know if that’s quite true, it does make a certain sense. Like I said, Loki has layers. He’s more than a stock character villain and I love characters like that!
Loki aside, I think everyone did a great job in the movie. The main villain in this one is Malekith, who wants to possess something called the aether (pronounced ether) so that all the worlds will go dark. He almost succeeded in the past, and he’s proving to be a challenge for Thor this time around.
What I wish I would have remembered before seeing the movie is that Malekith is played by Christopher Eccleston, who was the ninth doctor in Doctor Who. It wasn’t until I saw his name in the credits that I remembered. I guess I’ll have to pay more attention the next time I watch Thor. Regardless, he was a fairly typical evil villain, though definitely one that could easily succeed.
Definitely an enjoyable film! It’s one I’d happily watch again.
I'm so glad to see that you enjoyed Thor 2 as well. I didn't become a Thor fan either or even see the first film until after watching Avengers and I have to agree Loki has definitely sneaked his way in becoming my favourite! I also didn't realise that Christopher Eccleston played Malekith until the very end, he's totally unrecognisable right? Fab review!
I love superhero movies – must see this one!!
xx
I'm really excited about this. The first one was good! So I really want to check this one out 🙂
I still read the first one
Watched I mean, but I def want to. He is hot and avengers made me intersted
I wasn't big on the first Thor, but I loved this one. As you said, the humor was great. I really liked Jane Foster too – I think she clearly has insides.
I've never watched a single Avengers movie! Well, I watched Wolverine, does that count?
But anyway, I would definitely watch this series. I'm glad your family enjoyed it!
I still haven't see Avengers. I know!! I should, but beside Catching Fire and later Hobbit II I have no idea when will I get time to some movie. This one sounds great and I'll have to see it someday. Great review 🙂
I have to admit, I want to see this one for Loki. He seems to have the best lines. 🙂
I can't wait to watch this one I love Thor! And I totally agree action movies with humor are the best – and a big reason why I love Marvel movies! Iron man ones are my fav though.
Glad you enjoyed it, and I adore Christopher Eccleston. I am a Whovian, and get excited when I see past Doctors in other movies,
I've been thinking this might be one my husband and I would likely both like. I'm glad to hear it's good!
I still need to see the first installment, Lauren! With books consuming my life it seems like I never watch movies anymore. I did get a chance to see World War Z finally and I loved it. I love superhero flicks so I'll have to put this in my queue. Wonderful movie review! 🙂
My husband and son will probably go to see this one.
I really liked it! I loved Thor since his first movie hehe but know I like him more. Of course I love Loki too 😛
So glad to hear you enjoyed this and that the characters were good (I mean besides Loki of course, he's always fab!). I'm seeing it this weekend, and I couldn't be more excited!
I so agree, the villains in the Marvel universe are always 10000% amazing, and I loved Tom Hiddleston in this one. Loki is always a fun character. Loved that twist in the end 😉
