In the sky, a large styled pink "B" with Margot Robbie as Barbie sitting holding out her right arm and Ken lying down in an angle with his head resting on his right clenched hand. A tagline reads: "She's everything. He's just Ken."

Barbie: A Movie Review

I have seen the Barbie movie twice now, and I absolutely loved it both times. I think the casting was done really well, and I loved how it was kind of made for adults that grew up playing barbies. With the PG-13 rating, I think it’s kind of obvious this isn’t a typical kid’s movie, so just in case you don’t know, most younger kids might not get this one. There’s a lot that would definitely go over their heads.

Both times I saw this, I ended up crying. Not always at the same parts, but still, both times. It’s funny and nostalgic, but it’s also really emotional. I loved the feminism and girl power. There’s a lot of commentary on how it’s tough to be a woman in the Real World and I loved it! Also, the music in this film was fantastic! I really want the soundtrack now.

This is what I wore on opening night, my first time seeing the movie. I also got a couple Barbie themed cookies at a local bakery to share with the friend I saw the movie with.

Haunted Mansion: A Movie Review

I saw this movie with my mom and we both really liked it. It’s funny, a little spooky, and even emotional – yes, I cried at Haunted Mansion. There’s a lot of discussion about grief and losing a loved one, so just FYI if that’s a big trigger for you. I thought the cast was well done. I loved LaKeith Stanfield in the main role. I thought he did a great job, especially with the more emotional moments. Owen Wilson was one of the biggest comic reliefs, which is especially needed in this movie.

I don’t know why this was released at the end of July and not in the Fall, but I do recommend!

  1. That Haunted Mansion movie I hope it out to watch at home by the fall, it’d be the perfect spooky Halloween movie to watch! I saw the previews for it. I LOVED The Barbie Movie and I teared up too during it!

  2. I think I’m one of the few who haven’t seen Barbie yet. I might wait until it comes to the small screen. The Haunted Mansion looks good. I’d like to watch that too. The only time I end up going to a movie theatre is when my daughter has me go with her and the kids. We almost went and saw Barbie this last weekend but ended up having too much to do. Nice to hear you enjoyed both!

  3. I’m a huge Disney fan, so I was puzzled when I saw this movie coming out in the middle of the busy summer movie season. It seems like they get the tone of the ride right, so I can’t help but feel like it would have been more successful during the fall.

  4. I haven’t seen a movie in the theater for a pretty long time… I didn’t even play with Barbie growing up, but I really liked the Barbie movie too!

I haven’t seen Haunted Mansion yet. It does seem like it’d be better released in the fall, but my friend mentioned it the other day — we may end up watching it!
