It’s the first Monday of the month and time for My Month is Booked with Fairyburger. Here, I will share some quick reviews of books that I have read recently. Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and link up your own post with Farrah!
The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden is the third book I’ve read by this author. Her books tend to be full of twists and turns and they read quick. I did a buddy read with this one, so it was fun sharing thoughts and ideas as we all read. I ended up rating this one four stars, because I was surprised by some things and enjoyed the ride overall. I will say that almost none of the characters are all that likeable though, even the FMC Sydney.
A Special Place for Women by Laura Hankin was interesting. I actually chose this as one of my book club’s February reads. I didn’t love it as much as her book Happy & You Know It, but it did keep me reading and wondering. It starts out as a scoop for journalist Jillian to get back into the business. There’s a group called Nevertheless, all about helping and building up women. It sounds good, right? But is it really just a way for elite, rich women to help each other and not the less fortunate? And maybe even something else going on behind closed doors…
This book went in a direction I did not expect, and I’m not 100% on board with it, but I went with. I think it worked okay – definitely a way to talk about feminism and the power of women. I gave this one 3 1/2 stars.
Haunt Sweet Home by Sarah Pinsker is one of those books I’d recommend getting from the library first, and then buying a copy if you loved it. I gave it three stars. It’s not a bad read, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected. I went in thinking it was about a home renovation show where they fix up haunted houses. I liked that premise a lot, and while that’s somewhat the case, there’s a lot more going on. It’s a fairly quick, easy read, so I would recommend if you’re interested. I think it would make a good read to discuss with other people!
Yay! So happy to have you joining! :] The premise for A Special Place For Women sounds really intriguing — I might be adding that to my TBR.
Glad you got a lot of reading in!
I’ve only read/listened to a few of Freida’s books too but they have been lots of fun with so many unexpected twists.
Frieda McFadden’s books always sound so interesting, but my library doesn’t carry the ebooks, for some reason! I might have to go back to paper for this one, lol
