Official SummaryIt’s Christmas Eve, and Bird, Rabbit, Deer, and Squirrel are eagerly waiting for Santa to fly overhead. When he does, a gift tumbles out of his sleigh, landing in the woods. The friends find the gift and read the tag: “For the new baby at the farm. Love, Santa.” And so, in spite of Squirrel’s grumbling—“It’s not our baby”—they set off on a long journey to deliver it. Sweet, poignant, and starring a cast of truly adorable characters, this is a story sure to be shared year after year at Christmastime.

Review: This is such a cute book! The basic idea is that four forest animals- Bird, Rabbit, Deer, and Squirrel – come across a package that fell out of Santa’s sleigh. They go on a journey to make sure that the recipient gets their gift. Said recipient is the new baby on the farm. While not all the animals want to be bothered delivering the gift, they come together to make sure that the new baby gets her present in time for Christmas Day.

The Lost Gift is a great tale of friendship and giving back, even if you don’t think you’ll get something in return. My mom also really loved this one, and it’s something that I’d love to share with my niece and nephew someday!

Official Summary: Check out the summary on the publisher’s website here.

Review: Almost everyone knows the 12 Days of Christmas song, and that’s what this book is, except Britta Teckentrup created really cute illustrations to go along with it.

What makes this book worth getting is that it’s a peek-through book, meaning as the song continues on, more and more of the “gifts” show up through the pages. I took a couple pictures of the book to hopefully explain this a bit better. It’s such a fun idea!

Don’t you just love this? I really liked the little girl and boy on each page too, as they end up doing different things throughout the book. It’s definitely a visually appealing book that I’d recommend for a slightly older child!

I know Christmas is over, but these would be great to buy and hold onto for Christmas 2017!

  1. These are both so adorable!! I love the first book, even for my 10 year old son. The second book would be great for younger children and would be a great Christmas book for years and years and years!!! I still read some little kid Christmas books to my 10 year old just b/c it's tradition 😉

Thanks for sharing your great reviews, Lauren!!
