The Alchemy of Moonlight by David Ferraro
Thank you to Page Street Books for the copy; all opinions are my own
This is a Gothic, Paranormal, Historical Fiction, with LGBT+ representation and I really enjoyed it. The book follows Emile, who hides out as a servant in order to make it to his 18th birthday without his aunt putting him away for being gay. There, he meets the owner of the house’s nephew, Henri, and a local doctor, Bram. He’s attracted to both of them, and due to various circumstances in the book, he becomes close to one, and then the other. I’m not always a fan of love triangles but I think this was done well as I honestly liked both options and I wasn’t sure who was going to win Emile’s heart in the end.
The family Emile is a servant for, the Montoni family, has a secret, and it’s one that I think is pretty obvious. However, the book drags out the reveal for a long time, which is something I don’t think it needed to do. Regardless, once things are out in the open, it just ramps up the suspense and the “fear factor” if you will, though the book isn’t what I’d call scary.
The end shocked me a bit, but I liked it. I’d honestly read a sequel to get more of these characters and this world!
Nice. Sometimes I do wish the action would kick off sooner in some books! Thanks for sharing your review and happy June!
Sounds like a good book, but I do get annoyed when things seem to be dragged on for longer than necessary. Thanks for sharing this one!
I read this one recently too! I was also surprised by a few things, in a good way, in the end.
I’m already a fan of the genre and vibe of this one, so I’d love to give it a read for Pride Month!
