The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James
When I read a mystery, I usually want it to be rooted in reality. I find those to be the most “creepy” and interesting. However, I’m in a book club and one of the month’s picks was The Book of Cold Cases. This is a mystery, yes, but it also features aspects of the supernatural. I have to say that I ended up enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. The supernatural was certainly there, but a lot of the mysteries were still pretty realistic. It was a nice mix for me!
I ordered my copy from Once Upon a Book Club because I figured having gifts to open as I read would be fun, in case I didn’t really love the book.
If you see my photos from Instagram, you can scroll to view the gift reveals. These were the three things I got to open while I read. There was even an audio snippet you could scan a code to listen to, and I LOVED.

I liked this one a lot. and these extras look so fun!
I’m actually intrigued by the supernatural aspect. Sounds like the author didn’t go overboard with it.
This is an author I’ve wanted to try. Glad you ended up enjoying it. How much fun are little gifts while you’re reading?
I have this book on my shelf, I need to get around to reading it!
I loved this one! I think Simone St. James puts just the right amount of supernatural and real mystery and a smidge of romance for a fab combo!
Oh that sounds interesting.
This sounds sooo good! Thank you for sharing your review. 🙂
Wahoo! I love, love, love this author Lauren and hope you try more of her books.
That’s a cool way to enhance your reading experience! I enjoyed the mystery in this one but didn’t really think the supernatural elements were needed. Having read multiple books by St. James, I feel like the spooky thing is her signature. Still, I wish it was omitted from this one.
Aww, I’ve heard of Once Upon A Book Club — it sounds like a fun way to really enjoy a book! I really like reading historical fiction so I usually end up reading more books rooted in reality vs otherwise, but adding in the supernatural does put a nice spin on things too! I’ve always found that interesting too!
