The Deep by Rivers Solomon

The Deep by Rivers Solomon is one of the books I read for the Trans Rights Readathon.

This book is based on the song The Deep. As for the premise, the idea is that African women who were being brought across the ocean as slaves drowned and their babies survived, but as mermaids, essentially- able to breathe and live underwater. 🌊

It’s a quick, but really thought provoking read. I could see this being a great choice for book clubs! You’ll want to talk about all the themes for sure.

I have the readathon to thank for putting this book on my radar! 💙

  1. Ooooh I’ve never heard of this book before! It sounds compelling 🙂 Going to check out some of your other reviews now (I don’t get to do much reading anymore but I have been onto podcasts and I think I might try audiobooks next!).
