Official Summary: After a vicious fight with her boyfriend followed by a night of heavy partying, college freshman Amanda Greene wakes up in her dorm room to find things are not the same as they were yesterday. She can’t quite put her finger on it. She’s sharing her room with a peculiar stranger. Amanda discovers she’s registered for classes she would never choose with people that are oddly familiar. An ominous shadow is stalking her. Uncomfortable memories are bubbling dangerously close to her fracturing world, propelling her to an inevitable collision between fantasy and reality. Is this the mother of all hangovers or is something bigger happening?
Review: The History Major is a novella, listed at only 152 pages. Therefore, it is easy to read this book in just one day. Despite its short length, I felt this was still a fully formed story. Main character, Amanda Greene, is portrayed well and I liked getting to know her and her personality through a few well-placed flashbacks.
The History Major begins with Amanda waking up with an extreme headache. She can’t remember much of the previous night, but she does know she had a really bad fight with her boyfriend, and she desperately wants to make it up to him. Before she can do that, her roommate (who is not who she remembers as her initial roommate) tells her she is going to be late for her first day and then hands her her schedule. Amanda realizes her first class is History and she definitely did not sign up for history, so she tries to rectify the matter. Unfortunately, Amanda is essentially forced to take this class and so she enters the huge auditorium and meets a strange young man named Nick, who looks decidedly familiar.
I don’t want to go too much into the story since it is short and almost anything could be construed as a spoiler. Let’s just say that this history lesson is not what one would expect! I didn’t really know what to think going into this story, though I found the summary interesting and I am a fan of history! What I got in this small tale is definitely interesting, full of surprises and interesting moments. Amanda is easy to relate too, whether she’s desperately trying to leave this weird class, or thinking about her boyfriend and how she can’t choose between him and her friends. Like I said above, Amanda is pretty well formed for a novella and I really appreciate that! It makes the reader more invested in the story.
Overall, I would recommend this one. It’s a quick read and it’s definitely a book worth discussing! If you like history/historical fiction, there are some moments throughout that will especially appeal!

I'm a huge historical fiction fan, so I'd love to read this one.
I usually avoid novellas because they're so short that it's hard to go in depth into anything, but the premise of this one sounds interesting and I like that you thought it was well-formed. I might have to give this one a try then!
