This is the third book by Foley that I’ve read, after The Hunting Party and The Guest List. I would definitely say she’s a favorite mystery author. I love how she takes a bigger cast of characters and leaves you guessing all their little, and big, secrets.
Before I read this book, my favorite Foley novel was The Guest List…and it’s still The Guest List after reading The Paris Apartment. That’s not to say it’s a bad novel, by any means. It was still full of intriguing, often unlikeable characters, that are hiding a myriad of secrets. However, it was a bit slow in the beginning and it definitely took me longer to get adjusted to the story.
Once I got about halfway, things started to pick up and I was fully invested in figuring out what happened to Ben, who has gone missing. The end was definitely a shock to me, which I loved! It was fun not knowing what was ultimately going on, even if I did guess a few things here and there.
I’d recommend it if you’re already a fan of Foley, and if you’re new to her, maybe start here instead of reading the books in the order they were released.
I actually liked this one better than The Guest List. I think because I listened to The Guest List, I felt like I missed things.
I have heard a few people say that they didn’t like this one as much as her others, but I will probably still read it at some point.
Honestly – I would add this one to my collection just because of how aesthetic the cover is LOL – the color scheme is wonderful.
This was my first Foley and I loved it! I’m gonna try those other two now 🙂
I’ve never read any of her books but I love guessing along the way when there’s a murder mystery involved. Thanks for the great review!
Sounds like a great read despite the slower start. So glad you enjoyed this one, Lauren!
My mom and aunts are big mystery readers, so I’ll have to tell them about this author if you like her so much! Great review!
Shocker book endings are fun! I will need to read this one. 🙂
I loved The Guest List so I’m really excited to read this one. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it overall.
Thanks for an insightful review. This one is my book of the month and your review makes me excited to dive in!
I have not read this author yet but I do have The Guest List on my shelf. Glad you enjoyed this one.
This is my first time hearing about this author surprisingly! It’s too bad that it took halfway through the novel for things to pick up, but it sounds like the ending was worth it.
I’ve been wanting to try a Lucy Foley for so long and I think I’m gonna start here 🙂 Glad to hear you enjoyed it, despite a slow start.
