Confessions by Kanae Minato

Out: August 19, 2014

Summary: Her pupils killed her daughter. Now, she will have her revenge.

After an engagement that ended in tragedy, all Yuko Moriguchi had to live for was her four-year-old child, Manami. Now, after a heartbreaking accident on the grounds of the middle school where she teaches, Yuko has given up and tendered her resignation.

But first, she has one last lecture to deliver. She tells a story that will upend everything her students ever thought they knew about two of their peers, and sets in motion a maniacal plot for revenge.
Narrated in alternating voices, with twists you’ll never see coming, Confessions probes the limits of punishment, despair, and tragic love, culminating in a harrowing confrontation between teacher and student that will place the occupants of an entire school in harm’s way. You’ll never look at a classroom the same way again.

Want: I know I’ve been waiting on some slightly “darker” sounding books, but I think psychology and gritty, realistic moments in books are fascinating. This one definitely fits the bill and I’m very curious about the set up – since it’s narrated in alternating voices!

  1. Whilst 'twists you didn't see coming' are always a plus for me, alternating voices can be problematic. Still, won over by your review I'll be sure to keep a look out for this.

  2. I haven't heard of this one but this seems a bit too dark for me. I like books with issues but well I read books at night so it can get really tough. I hope you'll enjoy it. Great pick 🙂

  3. Whoa! O_O This sounds sooo disturbing. But I know what you mean! I do like darkly intense books like these. They stick with you! And I'm very intrigued with this premise.
