I haven’t done a WOW post in awhile, but apparently I’m slacking on new posts lately, so I thought it was about time that I shared one! I keep track of certain books I want on Amazon and Goodreads, and this is one I found on Goodreads!

Our Hearts Will Burn Us Down by Anne Valente
Out: October 4, 2016
Official Summary: The lives of four teenagers are capsized by a shocking school shooting and its aftermath in this powerful debut novel, a coming of age story with the haunting power of Station Elevenand the bittersweet poignancy of Everything I Never Told You.
As members of the yearbook committee, Nick, Zola, Matt, and Christina struggle to capture all the memorable moments of their junior year at Lewis and Clark High School amid documenting a horrific tragedy—a deadly school shooting by a classmate. But the shooting is only the first inexplicable trauma to rock their small suburban St. Louis town. A series of mysterious house fires have hit the families of the victims one by one, pushing the grieving town to the edge.
Matt, the son of the lead detective investigating the events, plunges into the case on his own, scouring the Internet to uncover what could cause a fire with no evident starting point. As their friend pulls farther away, Nick and Christina battle to save damaged relationships, while Zola fights to keep herself together.
Doesn’t this just sound great? I’m fascinated by books that deal with school shootings, because it does happen. It’s horrific, but it happens, and books sometimes help you understand a bit more. I like that this book seems to be more than just the shooting though. I also love a good mystery, which I’m assuming this one is, based on the summary.
What do you think?
Ooo looks good, I hope you end up loving it!
Sounds heartbreaking and fantastic! Enjoy!
I'll add this to my wish list. Looks like a powerful read.
This does sound like a powerful read and as you say this is something that a generation ago would have seemed outlandish – sadly now, not so much!
This one sounds so intriguing – I may need to check it out!
xx
Sounds like a topical read and one that sadly is becoming all too common. Done well I can imagine this being an good if heartbreaking read.
I've been terrified of these shootings lately. They seem to happen more and more often. I don't know how well I'd handle this one, but I'm willing to try.
You are right. It does happen sadly so it is a good thing to have written. Not sure if this one is for me, but I hope it works well for you.
I'm thinking I'd like to see how a teen's POV is fictionalized… intriguing!!! Great pick!!
Wow this sounds intense. I like the POV here. Tough, but necessary. I think we have to talk about this subject with our kiddos and even have this discussion with other adults, but this is just so hard.
Oh, I'm curious to see how you'd fare with this book. I'll be on the lookout for your review!
