Summer Fun from A to Z

Posted June 8, 2018 by shooting in Cincinnati / 43 Comments

I know the official start of Summer isn’t until the end of the month, but I think most of us consider Summer to be June, July, and August, so that’s what I’m going with. I saw this post idea on Dani’s blog, who got it from Amanda. Feel free to do your own post, but give credit to at least Amanda! Oh, and I totally used some of Dani’s answers, because she had some good ones!

ABC's of Summer: Going through the alphabet, I decide on things to do this summer! #summer2018 #bucketlist Click To Tweet

ABC’s of Summer

Albums: I really need to print out photos from my trip to London and make an album or two to commemorate!

Book Club: Keep attending my library book club and read the book every month!

Crafts: Go to as many library craft events as I can!

Dance Recital: As you read this, my dance recital was Thursday, June 7 so hopefully all went well for both of my dances. I’ll share more after!

Eating Outside: Eat outside at home, restaurants that have outdoor seating, maybe a picnic in the park.

Festivals: Cincinnati has a lot of great festivals in the summer, so I hope to visit as many of them as I can (and I will share about them on the blog, don’t worry!)

Game Works: This is what I like to call “Chuck E Cheese” for adults, though kids can obviously go as well. I haven’t been in ages, but I think it would be fun to grab some friends and go this summer!

Hang Outside: I realize this could mean a lot, but I want to do as many outdoor events as I can – festivals, go to King’s Island, go swimming, etc.

Ice Cream Machine: I have my own ice cream machine, but have I actually used it? No, I have not, so hopefully this will be the summer that I try it out!

Journal: I started my first ever bullet journal this year and it’s all about entertainment (books read, music listened to, etc.) so I want to keep up with that this summer and hopefully try some new styles/be more creative.

Kari’s Birthday: My sister’s birthday is near the end of the month, so I’m sure we’ll do something fun in honor of that!

Live Music: I’m seeing Niall Horan and Maren Morris next month and I’m so excited. Hopefully I’ll have some other opportunities to hear live music!

Movies: The summer is one of the best times to see movies so hopefully I can visit the theater more often! Some I plan to see are Ocean’s 8, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, and Christopher Robin.

Night In: Last October I had a night in with friends where we watched Halloween films. I’d love to do something similar this summer – either a movie night, or a craft night. Just anything we can do without going out and spending tons of money!

Outdoor Movies: I know I just said movies above, but I also want to see outdoor movies! There are a few parks where I live that show movies during the summer, and then of course, there’s always the drive- in theater. I’m going to try and get there a few times.

Painting: My mom and I are planning on doing one of those follow-along painting classes this month, so I’m excited about that.

Queer Pride: There are a couple different Pride festivals going on in the summer, so I hope to make it to at least one of them.

Reading: It should go without saying that I’ll be reading this summer, but I also really want to focus on some poolside type of reads; you know, the lighter/funnier fare! Any suggestions?

Swimming: I’m lucky to have my own pool so I plan on using it as much as I can this summer!

Try a New Restaurant: I’m lucky to live right outside Cincinnati, so there are a ton of fun restaurants and I’d really love to try somewhere new this summer.

Update the Blog/Social Media: I’m not sure what this will entail, but I do want to update some things and try and find ways to gain more views/followers!

Visit King’s Island Water Park: The water park of King’s Island has just opened, so I’m definitely going to try and visit a few times this summer!

Wedding Planning: No, I did not forget to tell you I got engaged…rather, I’m a maid of honor for one of my very best friends. I imagine we’ll be doing a lot of fun wedding things this summer and I can’t wait!!

X- Strike!: When you go bowling and get a strike, they put an X on the screen. I’d really love to go bowling with some friends this summer. We used to go a lot! I’m not that great at it, but it’s fun.

Yoga: I’ve taken a couple yoga classes, but that’s it. I’d like to try a new class – see if it’s something I can start doing more regularly as I do think it would be helpful for building up strength and becoming more flexible.

Zoo: I say it all the time, but I need to actually visit the 4-D Theater at the Cincinnati Zoo, so I’d like to do that, but at any rate, I just want to make sure I go to the Zoo!

  1. Best of luck with your recital Lauren! Really looking forward to hearing how you went. Your painting activity sounds like something I’d really love to try as well. I wouldn’t consider myself a creative person but I really love the arts and used to paint and draw as a teen often. I’ll have to check around my local area and perhaps rope someone in to come with me. The more the merrier! When it comes time to that blog shakeup, if you’re considering a makeover, give me a shout if you need any help, would love to help out if you need it β™₯β™₯β™₯

  2. Ooh I love summer festivals- and concerts. Live music in the summertime is the best. πŸ™‚ And there are movies I want to see too ha ha! A good place to be when it’s super hot!

Good luck with your dance recital!

  3. Such a great list of summertime things to do!! Big fan of yoga whenever possible and the zoo is always a good idea πŸ™‚ I have been bullet journaling for about a year or so now…such a great outlet for creativity…and helpful with organization too!

What a fun post! Love some of the things you listed. Live music, festivals and hanging outside sound perfect.

  5. Wow – what a lovely post! This is something I want to do when we get our summer (can you tell how envious I am of your warm weather?)
Good luck for your dance recital on Thursday – you must be so excited!
I love trying new restaurants. I admit I like when someone recommends it to us but sometimes hubby and I try new ones which we love and keep going back to.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. I really like this idea! I need to sit down and make my own summer bucket list – I think this is an absolutely awesome way to go about it! With my second baby due in July, I’m sure some yoga could do this mind and body good.

  7. This sounds like a great summer bucket list that would be great for all ages! We went to the zoo this year and it was a blast! Had not been there in probably 30 years!

  8. This is such a fun list! I hope to do a lot of these things too, especially making ice cream, going to festivals, and doing lots of reading!

  9. crystal

This is a great list. I can see myself doing a few of them! I’ve also wanted to take a yoga class! My favorite? Hanging outside. The peacefulness of it all. Especially in the evening!

  10. This is a great way to plan your summer! I may have to follow suit. I really want to make the best of the first summer with my little man. Good luck with your recital! I need to check into my library book club. I know I get emails about it. Maybe even start one of sorts on my blog. Mostly to keep myself accountable to reading at least one book a month. I hope you have a fabulous month and cross all of that fun stuff off!

  11. These are all such fun ideas! We love to attend festivals and eat outside. We just might have to check out some festivals in Cincinnati!

Holy wow, this is fantastic. I think we all need a little ABC reminder of summer fun after this week. I hope you get to do loads of these things πŸ™‚

  13. I’m not Summer’s biggest fan, but I will admit there are perks to this time of the year! My son is 4 and I’m taking him to an amusement park for the first time later this month! We’re leaving Dad and the sisters home for the day while we go out and play, haha. The girls are still a little young for an all-day outing, plus they’re too little for most of the rides.

I hope you’re able to do everything on your list!

  14. I love this kind of post. Looks like you have so many fun things to look forward to this summer. My local pride weekend was a soggy one because of all the rain we got, so I didn’t get to go, but the parade is next weekend. Hope the weather will hold for that one!

  15. I’m not a fan of summer actually-hate hot weather! However, I am a fan of finding new restaurants and of going to the Cincinnati Zoo before I moved away from Ky. Do you live on the Ohio side or Ky side? And Kings Island? Didn’t they change the name? Used to love to go there every summer. Hope you ace your recital on Thursday. This was a fun post!

  16. Love this!! I haven’t seen a summer list in the form of A to Z so this is so creative and so many great ideas that I can’t wait to add to my summer list! ?

Hi there, Followed the trail over from Summer Bucket list link and so happy to find another Cincinnati based blogger!! That might be the only thing we have on common, but maybe not.

I picked up yoga 2 years ago as part of my new lifestyle transition. MadTree Brewery in Oakley has a great donation-class led by Project Yoga on Sunday mornings at 9:30.

I love OTR restaurants… hubby & I have Ensemble Theater tickets on Thursday nights so we do a dinner & theater date 6 times a year. So many good places down there… what kind of food do you like?

I like your A to Z listing… I’ve done various A to Z’s before, but not a bucket list approach! Hmmm.

How fun you live in Cincy! OTR does have some great restaurants – I’m a big fan of Taste of Belgium there and need to go back soon. I also just love checking out Findlay Market. πŸ™‚ I’ve never been to the Ensemble Theater, but I do want too! I love live theater.

  18. Super late, my bad, but thanks for the shout-out! I think X was my hardest letter, but X-Strike is perfect! Game Works sounds a lot like Dave and Busters in my area- there’s one in Times Square when you come to NYC πŸ™‚ Niall Horan AND Maren Morris? That’s awesome! Sounds like you have a great summer ahead of you, enjoy!
