That Weekend by Kara Thomas
personal copy; all opinions are my own
Review:Ā First off, thank you to Suzanne from The Bookish Libra for gifting me a copy of this book. I brought it on my vacation to Hilton Head last month and really enjoyed it. Kara Thomas is one of my favorite YA mystery authors, and I highly recommend her work (I’ve read all of her books so far!) This book is about Claire, who skips her senior prom, to secretly go to her friend’s grandma’s lake house. It’s her and her friends Kat and Jesse. However, by the end of the weekend, Claire is found on the mountain with a head wound and no memory of the past couple of days…and her friends are nowhere to be found. I thought this was a pretty solid mystery! It definitely had me wondering and second guessing characters (even Claire, Kat, and Jesse!)

Meet Your Baker by Ellie Alexander
personal copy; all opinions are my own
Review: Iām a big cozy mystery fan but I definitely need to make more time for them. In this one, Jules comes home to help her mom in their bakery and figure out what she wants out of the rest of her life.
ā£
Not long after arriving, a local (who many have reason to hate) winds up dead…inside the bakery!!Ā Jules investigates as much as she can- desperate to find the culprit and make sure the bakery and her small town arenāt too negatively affected! And whew- there are many suspects! I love that I didnāt guess who done it!
ā£
Jules is an enjoyable narrator, and I really loved the various secondary characters. I definitely flew through this one, and I canāt wait to pick up the sequel (which I already own)!!Ā I think this is going to be another favorite series for me. ā£
Plus- the book is full of fun baking tips and tricks!!

I’ve actually read some other books in the past month, but I do want to take some fun photos with them (and I might do individual review posts for some) so I’ll save them for the next link-up!
What have you read this month? Have you read any of the above…or are you interested in any of them? I’d love to know!
I have officially joined TikTok! If you’re on there, I’d love to follow you. Right now it’s mostly a mix of bookish things and my cat, Charlie.
I have a lot of these on my list. I loved The Secret Bridesmaid!
Love the cover for The Secret Bridesmaid – so pretty! And I’m getting a kick out of your cat looking slightly annoyed at all those dogs. š
I like Thomas’ books, and That Weekend was another winner for me. Good and twisty!
I just went and put a reservation on Meet Your Baker – it sounds like the prefect book my mom and I would enjoy reading together! Much thanks!
Adding the cozy mystery to my list because I love that genre!
Okay, I have to read Meet Your Baker! I love cozy mysteries š
Okay, the pic with your cat next to a book featuring dogs on the cover is hilarious! And I LOVE tuxedo cats! That Weekend sounds really good, adding it to my TBR. I used to be a diehard fan of cozies, somewhat moved past them but think I need to revisit them. I love a good mystery and some currently mysteries are little too hardcore (i.e. depressing) for me right now.
If my daughter ever becomes a reader, I’m sending her to you for some YA recommendations.
Ha! Your cat looks a bit peeved to be featured by dogs! My cats would feel it was an insult to their existence as well. Dogs are so beneath them, lol! Love your picture with Lies We Bury. The cream roses match the cover beautifully. š
That Weekend sounds like a good YA read. I also enjoy cozy mysteries but don’t make enough time to read them. And I love ones related to food!
It looks like you have some really fun books going on! Your cat does not look impressed with all those dogs on the cover.
Every time I read a cozy mystery I wonder why I don’t read more of them.
The premise of That Weekend sounds super interesting! And how nice of Suzanne to gift it to you!
That Weekend and Meet Your Baker sound like good thrillers. I don’t know when last I read a cozy mystery but now I want to!
Great photos!
Sounds like you read some good books recently. Thank you for the recommendation!
Sounds like some fun reads. I love the style of your posts – I meant to set up my Bookshop site, but never finished. And I always intend to take more pictures and post on Instagram, but other things end up taking priority. You make it all look beautiful! Thanks for sharing and enjoy your month š
Yay, so happy to hear you enjoyed That Weekend. š
I’m loving all your book photos Lauren.

Great selection! I hope you’ll enjoy these. š
Oooh I need to add several of these to my list!
Meet Your Baker sounds like a really good book. I am a mystery fan myself. And this sounds like something I would def read. Thanks for these recommendations š http://www.bauchlefashion.com/2021/08/chanels-take-on-modernism-6-bags-im.html
I love cozy mysteries and I want those goodies you had in your picture! Greate lineup of books š
ooh, the Secret Bridesmaid is on my TBR! I’ll be off to read your review as soon as I’m done commenting here. I don’t read cozy mysteries, but I love the titles, especially that Meet Your Baker! Lol!
And……I just realized I already read your review of The Secret Bridesmaid. Boy am I way out of my head with blogging lately!
I love the sound of That Weekend. I did like the Kara thomas book I read a couple years ago though, so I should try this one.
Kara Thomas is also one of my favorite YA authors and I love That Weekend, although Little Monsters is still my fave of hers, I guess haha! I want to read more cozy mysteries, I’ve only started getting into the genre this year with Arsenic and Adobo and Dial A for Aunties, and they were sure hits for me! I’m definitely going to check out Meet Your Baker.
I really liked The Secret Bridesmaid too!!!
