Ballads of Suburbia by Stephanie Kuhenert is an amazing book. It’s one of my Favorite Books Ever. And I want to share the love. Right now, you can buy this book SUPER cheap on Amazon. That’s good for those of you who need to buy the book still…but it also means the book is in the Bargain Bin, if you will, and that’s not good for Stephanie. So start purchasing copies (at a good price) and show that this book is wanted. Maybe it’ll help. Each book bought only helps after all!

Here is the summary:

Kara hasn’t been back to Oak Park since the end of junior year, when a heroin overdose nearly killed her and sirens heralded her exit. Four years later, she returns to face the music. Her life changed forever back in high school: her family disintegrated, she ran around with a whole new crowd of friends, she partied a little too hard, and she fell in love with gorgeous bad-boy Adrian, who left her to die that day in Scoville Park….

Amid the music, the booze, the drugs, and the drama, her friends filled a notebook with heartbreakingly honest confessions of the moments that defined and shattered their young lives. Now, finally, Kara is ready to write her own.

Doesn’t that sound amazing? If you say no, I can’t be friends with you. Okay…kidding.  But you should still give it a shot. One of the things that I love about Ballads and Stephanie’s other book are all the music references, especially the punk rock themes that run throughout. In order to celebrate the book, I have a few music-themed giveaways planned. I’m running a bit behind but all the posts WILL be up this weekend so you have plenty of time to check them out and enter away. So if you’re willing to spread the word about Ballads and the giveaways, that would be amazing. You can do so now or wait until the posts are actually up. It doesn’t matter. Any help would be great…especially if you’ve read Ballads and love it as well!

I also had a fun little idea to keep the Ballads love alive all the time…and I wanted to see what you thought. If you don’t know Ballads, then read the last paragraph of the summary above and it gives you a short definition of what a ballad is. It’s essentially the BIG, PIVOTAL moment of someone’s life and what they felt. I’m probably not explaining it right, but this is why you need to read the book and see the examples for yourself.

However, my idea is to have a Twitter of Ballads. We’d have an actually twitter feed where people submit their ballads, but of course they can’t go over 140 characters. The twitter would link to a blog post or something that explains what the feed is all about, what a ballad is, who Stephanie is, etc. What do you all think? Would you submit a ballad and/or tell others?
