Long Way Down is a book I’ve meant to read for years, so I was happy when it was chosen for my library book club. It’s written in verse but it works really well. I can’t imagine the emotions coming across as clearly if it was written in a narrative format.
The book mostly takes place in an elevator as Will is about to shoot and kill the person he believes murdered his brother. It’s one of the rules passed down from generation to generation. Nothing changes and these young black men keep dying.
I would definitely recommend this for adults, despite it being a YA book. It will leave you thinking and wanting to discuss.

I love your IG photo, the color match is just perfect.
I read this book a couple of years ago and have made a lasting impression on me. Sometimes, life doesn’t give us time to weigh your choices in life — regardless of how insignificant or huge they may be. In this case, it’s the length of an elevator ride. Very powerful.
This may be marketed as YA, but I agree with you that it has cross appeal. This was a story that has stayed with me
I read this a few years ago, and it is definitely something that stuck with me for awhile. Such a good book for anyone.
Oh wow, I’ve never head of this but I definitely might have to give it a try. It sounds heavy!
I have this on my shelf and really should pick it up soon!
I really need to read this one. I have had it on my tbr forever as well.
Wow! This sounds powerful. I want to read it!
This is one I wanted to read too. But I just have so much trouble getting through novels in verse. I might try the graphic novel that I think they made from it? Glad you got to read it!
Definitely want to read this!
This one has been on my radar for a while and I just haven’t made it a priority. Sounds like I need to move it up the list!
I love stories like this that leave you with food for thought and lots to discuss. Sounds like a great book club read.
Brilliant photo! I loved this book. It’s the best thing I’ve read in 2021.
