Noontime Book Chat Day Four: Chasing Windmills

Alright, so the book is winding up now….though I still have not finished yet. I’ll be reading more later and tomorrow so that I can post about my full thoughts on the book as a whole when everyone else does for the Friday wrap up.
However, I did want to discuss one of the characters a little more…Delilah. We haven’t talked about her too much when posting about our thoughts and she’s definitely a great addition to the story.
I love that she’s so willing to help Sebastian and make sure he lives life and can get out from under his father’s thumb. It is a bit odd that she would, in a way, since he’s still 17 and she’s an adult…so you’d think she would be a little more cautious about helping. She doesn’t, and I do think it’s great because she’s changing this young boy’s life for the better.
Delilah is a great character and she has some amazing views on life. I always love reading her answers for all of Sebastian’s many questions.
So…what do you think? Any thoughts on the character of Delilah?

I loved Delilah because she had a tempered resistance to Sebastian’s father. She never came right out and told Sebastian what to think, rather she steered him in various directions (new food, movies, etc.) that opened his eyes. In a way, she was the polar opposite of Sebastian’s father… she let him think for himself.
Heather: I completely agree! She was kind of a medium for Sebastian into the world. She guided him in various directions, but allowed him to think for himself and be the man he should have been encouraged all his life to be.

You are so right! She was a key character in the story. I agree with Heather, Delilah was opposite of what Sebastian was accustomed to. As much as I liked her, she was predictable. I knew she was going to put the $50 in the envelope. The reason is I know some people just like her…lol! She was a character readers could relate to. Do either of you know someone like her as well?
I guess I’m not as lucky, I was really surprised when he found the $50… she was too sweet. (It almost made me think she was too much of a charicature, but I still liked her.)
I like Delilah’s character.
She helps him so much, without judging him. Its just what Sebastian needs, a good friend.

J. Kaye: It’s quite alright! I’ve been late in posting for many of these, sadly, but I have been!
I probably should have realized she’d put the money in the envelope, but I honestly didn’t think about it after she agreed to make them food…all of a sudden, it just said it and was all “awww!” because i wasn’t thinking that it was coming, you know?
Do I know someone like Delilah? I don’t know. I mean, I know different people that are kind and would probably be there if you needed them, but Delilah is just very extreme about it, in that Sebastian’s way of life was extreme…does that make sense? LOL
Naida: it’s definitely something he needs! She opens up a lot for him, but also shows that not everyone is bad…in the case of his father, his mother in ways, and of course Carl.

Yep, I have. Maybe it’s a southern thing? I don’t know. I’ve known a few people who’ve taken others in, like a temp adoption, feed them, cloth them, etc. – with no strings attached. I guess it’s like a big brother program in larger cities. Times are changing though…less of this is happening.
I am heading to bed to finish the last of the book. I am curious about the ending!
J. Kaye: Ah, true, I guess when you put it that way…taking people in (which really, I should have thought about LOL) then I can kind of think of more people.
I mean, when it comes to my own parents, they’ve had my cousin live there for free for a few months to help him and even have my grandpa nowadays.
I’m so curious about the ending too! I think I’ll finish it tonight or early tomorrow. I’m so close!
