The Suicide House is the fifth mystery novel by author Charlie Donlea, and it’s the fifth book I’ve read of his. The first three were four stars, and the last two were five stars (so yes, that means The Suicide House was five stars).
I absolutely adore this author’s work. I’m a huge mystery/thriller fan and I think he does it so well. He uses modern styles of detective work, but the book tends to have different twists and turns that I didn’t see coming – or couldn’t quite unravel before the end. The latter is definitely true of The Suicide House. It follows the perspective of various characters – kind of an omniscient point of view- allowing the reader to get the full story, piece by piece.
If you’ve read Charlie Donlea’s last book, Some Choose Darkness, you’ll recognize two characters -Rory Moore and Lane Phillips. However, while I loved SCD and recommend reading it, you do not have to do so before reading The Suicide House. You get enough information about the characters and their work to fully understand this latest book.
One of the things that I really loved when I got to the end of my review copy for The Suicide House is that the author points out the various characters in this book that were also in previous books. I knew Moore and Phillips, and obviously I knew all the others since I’ve read the books, but I didn’t make the connection as it had been awhile. I really appreciated the author adding this! If you haven’t read anything else by Donlea, I’m sure it will make you want to go back and introduce yourself to some of these characters.
As I’m always saying, Charlie Donlea is one of my absolute favorite mystery authors and I highly recommend his work. The Suicide House is just the latest in a string of hits!

I like when authors write characters from other books into their newest stories. I think it’s impressive that he was able to hit you with fresh twists and turns considering you are a mystery/thriller reader, and it seems his books are even getting better for you. Yeah!
Well you know I LOVED this book! I totally need to check out more books by Donlea, the only other one I’ve read is Don’t Believe It, which knocked it out of the park for me.
Oh I love when series have carry-over characters from other books. It’s always so fun to see them again!
