First off, I know today is Keep It Together day, but I’m running a bit late with things. My post will be up in a day or so, but if you have your own post, you can link up now on Alexandra’s blog – and don’t forget to leave some love on her post! For now though, I’m part of a book tour for this fantastic picture book so read on!
This Is Not That Kind of Book by Christopher Healy, illustrated by Ben Mantle

Official Summary (add to Goodreads): This is a book that answers all the kids who have ever posed the question What kind of book is it?
This clever alphabet book… Wait, that’s not right. This original fairy tale… Nope. Mystery? Joke book? Superhero story? Pirate adventure? This delightful mash-up features every kind of character found in the picture-book universe–all in one book. Just when the reader is convinced the story is going in one direction, it spins off in another.
Review: I’m a huge fan of picture books, and This Is Not That Kind of Book is such a unique one. It would make a great gift for any young kid in your life. Many picture books fall under specific categories – alphabet book, fairy tale, mystery, animals who wear people clothes, etc. This book is none of those things – and all of those things. I think kids will really get a kick out of the changing “stories” in this book. Nothing is straightforward and it makes you want to keep reading to see what will happen next.
The illustrations are bright and fun. I love that the character’s dialogue is shown in word bubbles, which adds another fun twist to the traditional picture book. I’m so glad I was able to be part of this book tour, because this is definitely one of those picture books that people need to add to their collection. So many books for kids can feel similar, but this one definitely flips things on its head. Such a fun read!
I love books like this! I think this would quickly become a favorite in our home. Thanks for sharing it!
What a cute little idea for a book! I have always loved the weird ones and the ones with lots of information or stories or directions. This one sounds so good!

I’m always on the lookout for fun kids books for my grandkids. I’ll add this one to the list! 🙂
Going to order this book now and maybe create a library lesson around it. Sounds perfect for teaching children genres. Do you think it would work for that? It really sounds entertaining and funny and very clever.
Ooh I love that idea, and yes, I think it would be great for teaching genres!!
This sounds like such a fun read. Makes me sad that my son has outgrown picture books.
Aww what a sweet book ❤️ Thanks so much for sharing; I love that it doesn’t fall under any one particular category. Adorable!
Perfect Christmas present for my nieces and nephews! They know they’re getting books from me , anyway. Lol.
