If You Love Something by Jayce Ellis
DeShawn is a top chef, seemingly living the good life. Until he learns that his grandma is going to fight her cancer anymore and she’s left the house to him…and money to his ex-husband. Who might not actually be his ex-husband. Malik and DeShawn have to ‘reunite’ to make sure Grandma’s wishes are met…and of course, the two realize maybe they never stopped loving each other. I thought this was a really sweet read – it’s a bit of a slow burn, but I loved DeShawn and Malik reuniting with each other day by day. Plus, for all you dog fans, they each have a dog that ends up obsessed with each other!

The Mary Shelley Club by Goldy Moldavsky
The only other book I’ve read by Moldavsky is Lord of the Fly Fest. I liked that one okay, but I highly recommend The Mary Shelley Club. After a horrific event, Rachel moves and starts at a new school, where she really only has one friend and feels like she doesn’t fit in. That is until she realizes there’s a secret group at school that pulls off elaborate fear-based pranks, all harkening back to the horror genre.
I liked how the book slowly upped the suspicion and danger. Everything seems okay, if not a bit strange, at first, but Rachel soon realizes that there’s more to the club than she might have originally thought. I mean, nobody is supposed to actually get hurt, right? I really liked Rachel, even if I didn’t necessarily love the group she was part of, though you can’t say it’s not entertaining!
Mystery, horror references, dark academia, and Mary Shelley. You can’t go wrong.

Wow…awesome month of reading. I’ve been going strong in 2023 with reading and listening. I am hoping it continues.
The Sanatorium is one I’ve been really wondering about…..
I’ve been blocking out time on the weekends to read more. Saving a few of your recommendations!
