Today, I’m going to talk about scrapbooks. If you’ve been reading these posts for awhile, then you know that I keep meaning to get back into scrapbooking, especially for my trip to London…which was a little over 2 years ago now. Yeah, I’m way behind, I know! However, I recently made a scrapbook…just not for myself!

Scrapbook as Wedding Gift

In a little over a week, I will be the maid of honor in one of my besties’ weddings. This past weekend, we had her Bachelorette party and part of her gift was a scrapbook that I made. Sadly, I don’t have any photos to share, but since it’s not my personal scrapbook, I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing them on here anyway. But that’s okay! I just want to talk about the idea of a scrapbook as wedding gift. I’ve made scrapbooks to give as gifts in the past – my sister has two and another friend has one (she was at the party and stated I have to make her another for her own wedding next year!)

How It Came To Be…

This tradition of scrapbook as wedding gift actually originated with another group of friends we call the Girl Scouts, because we all grew up doing Girl Scouts together. We still get together here and there, and we’ve all been invited to each other’s weddings (minus mine, because I’m the only one not married). I don’t know who came up with the idea, but for the first one to get married, the rest of the group came together to create our own pages to put in a scrapbook. We all had various photos from our lives growing up, and we made sure to include little notes and memories as well. Together, it made a really fun memory that we were able to give the bride-to-be at her Bachelorette party.

The Current Scrapbook

I didn’t actually think about doing a scrapbook for the wedding I’m going to be in until my mom mentioned it, and then I realized, of course! This would be a great gift, and I love doing things that are a bit DIY and more personal. I went through my pictures and created pages based on the memories I found – photos of me and her, movie related photos (like seeing Harry Potter at midnight), Christmas, Halloween, and other themed parties I’ve thrown (like The Hunger Games and a Literary Luncheon for the Ladies). In all, I think I had about 10 pages, so it definitely didn’t fill up the scrapbook, but that’s okay. I figured I can always make new pages and give them to her in the future, as she’s not the type to necessarily make her own. These would include things like her Bachelorette Party and Wedding, which were obviously not included in the scrapbook.

Scrapbook as Wedding Gift: Your Thoughts?

What do you think though? Would you be excited to receive a scrapbook as wedding gift (or any other big milestone in your life)? Is this something you’ve been given, or even gifted yourself already? Inquiring minds would like to know!

Finally, thank you so much for following along with Keep It Together this year. Like I said above, we are coming back in 2019 and as of now, it will continue to be the Third Thursday of the Month so the next one is January 17, 2019. Put us in your planner or calendar, and we hope to see you next year!

  1. What a fun idea! I made a scrapbook for my friend to be part of her birthday gift that included photos from her wedding, bachelorette party, and a shower we threw for her. She seemed to like it! I actually have it up on YT if you need some ideas for a future one! 🙂 What a cool idea! I hope that your friend really likes it!! 🙂 I’m sure she will! XO – Alexandra

This would such a thoughtful gift to receive. I have made wedding scrapbooks for my daughter and son. Made baby scrapbooks and school scrapbooks. They are all appreciated and treasured.

  3. I honestly adore the idea of giving a scrapbook as a wedding gift. My mom did this for her best-friend’s weddings (they are quite literally lifelong friends, when they were in their twenties my mom made one for wedding #1 and then for wedding #2 last spring, which the friend adored this–it was bittersweet revisiting the first scrapbook for them together, as her friend’s husband died a few years back but it’s still something she treasured having the ability to look back on it) and there’s really nothing like giving something so intimate to someone on their wedding. You know what I mean? So, great post and idea!

  4. I gave my bff a scrapbook as a wedding gift over 7 years ago when she tied the knot! It had words from their chosen first song and moments from the bridal shower and bach party and everything! It was so fun to make, too! I gave my brother and sister-in-law one, as well!

  5. I would have absolutely loved to receive a scrapbook as a wedding gift. It is so thoughtful and shows you really put thought and love into it. I’m sure they’ll love it!

  6. I love scrapbooking and crafting! I think that is such a thoughtful gift. I still have to work on my wedding scrapbook album and I’ve been married for almost 6 years!

  7. I would absolutely love to receive or create myself a scrapbook for my wedding. I think it is so sweet. I tried scrapbooking years ago but I didn’t really have a theme. I think next time I try I will go for a theme of wither a trip or something with me and my mom, me and my dad, or me and my brothers.

  8. I think it’s a great idea! I participated in putting a wedding scrapbook together recently and we each submitted a picture of us with the bride and wrote a letter of memories and future blessing for her. It turned out beautifully!

I think scrapbooks are a very personal gift. I would love one as a wedding gift especially because I think a wedding is deeply personal. Love this idea 🙂

  10. This is such a great idea. I love scrapbooks. It’s such a fun way to curate memories for easy access. I haven’t scrapbooked in years, but I really should start since I have a toddler and another babe on the way. Some might even call me a fail mom since I didn’t baby book with my first. Oops.

I used to love making and receiving scrap books. It has been a while though…now that all of our photos are on our camera. I think everyone would appreciate this thoughtful gift!!
